Town Targets Among Late Movers
Town Targets Among Late Movers
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2011 23:44

A number of players mentioned in connection with the Blues were amongst the late movers on the final day of the transfer window. Dutch defender Jos Hooiveld has joined Southampton and Spanish centre-half Pablo Ibáñez has signed for Birmingham.

Hooiveld has moved to the Saints from Celtic on loan until January, while Ibáñez has put pen to paper on a two-year deal after leaving West Brom for an undisclosed fee.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Real Zaragoza central defender Víctor Laguardia, watched by the Blues during the La Liga club's recent British tour, has joined Segunda División side Las Palmas on a season-long loan with Spanish reports claiming he had the option of joining Town.

Elsewhere, former Blue Shefki Kuqi, 34, has joined Oldham Athletic for the season, having left Newcastle at the end of the last campaign.

Loans we have - 1. Andrews - with a view to sign permanently in January. 2. Daryl Murphy - for a year, with a view to sign 3. David Stockdale - currently England No.2, so well worth the 'gamble'. OK, so we do need probably two more loans now (CB & RB?), but that will still only add up to three temporary loans - how is that too many? ELEVEN players in already isn't too bad for Evans/Clegg/PJ!

Reviewing the ins and outs this summer I am left with mixed views and I suppose nothing will be clear until December time. On the one hand we have got proven quality in the side (Chopra, Andrews, Bullard, Bowyer, Ingamarson, Stockdale) and potential in Cresswell, JET, Carson, Hyam, Drury(?) and O'Connor. But I still see no plan here and the signing of Murphy, the persistence with Leadbitter, the continued exclusion of Peters, Hyam and O'Connor and still no RB is very, very worrying! C'mon PJ please prove me wrong and lets play the kids and play some football!

loan window will soon be open, now big boys have sorted their squads i'm sure PJ will find a full back from somewhere

btw - free's are not cheap - ask QPR - the money goes to the player

Ipswich and PJ have shown no ambition and expose their approach in doing everything on the cheap. It's not who we want anymore, it's who''s free and doesn't have any options. Loans and frees.

if we had got a decent right back in then I'd be happy with all our summer signings - but we haven't and that's still an issue, Carlos Edwards should be used further up the field (but primarily starting on the bench) and why haven't we shipped that useless pile of cr@p Leadbitter out somewhere!?! I still believe it might take a few months for this team to gel, and hopefully by that time we won't be 20 points or so behind the pack.
