Academy midfielder Jonathan Leddy picked up his first Republic of Ireland U17 cap last night as his side lost 2-0 to Serbia in a friendly in Wexford. First-year scholar Leddy came on as a 66th minute substitute.

The Irish youngsters play the same opposition again in another friendly on Thursday afternoon, also in Wexford.

The games are warm-ups for the first phase qualifiers for the UEFA U17 Championship which will be played in Kazakhstan from October 18th-24th, where Ireland face Liechtenstein, the hosts and the Czech Republic in a qualification mini-group.
