Lavery on Trial With Leicester
Lavery on Trial With Leicester
Wednesday, 9th Nov 2011 11:26

Town contract rebel Caolan Lavery is on trial with Leicester City and scored in his first game for a Foxes XI last night. TWTD revealed that the 19-year-old frontman had been offered a trial by the Midlands club last week after first reporting their interest back in April.

Lavery helped a Leicester side to retain the Westerby Cup Winners' Cup by beating local non-league side Quorn on penalties.

The Canada-born striker netted from close range just before half-time to equalise with the game ending 1-1, but missed his spotkick in the shoot-out, which finished 3-2.

Lavery, whose two-year scholarship was extended until his 19th birthday three weeks ago after he suffered a serious knee injury last season, recently turned down the offer of a Town deal until the end of the season.

The striker from Red Deer, Alberta was understood to be unhappy with his proposed wage which was believed to be below that of a number of his contemporaries.

Last week he held talks with League Two Bradford, while Aston Villa have also been monitoring his progress in recent months. Links with Tottenham were dismissed last season.

The Northern Ireland U21 international netted five goals in seven FA Premier Academy League games for Town’s U18s during the early stages of this campaign, plus a further four for the reserves.

Having offered the contract, Town are entitled to compensation from the club Lavery eventually decides to join.

Meanwhile, on-loan midfielder Andy Drury was named in the League Two Team of the Week having netted the second goal of his spell at Crawley in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Hereford.

Crawley manager Steve Evans said: "He should be in it every week. He is a gifted player. He's got fantastic natural ability."

Drury, who has made nine starts for his loan club, is with the Red Devils until mid-December but the deal includes provision for the move to be made permanent in January.

.......... should be plain for you all to see 'less youngsters want to wear the shirt' than possibly EVER before. I wonder why ??? - no prizes for guessing.

safeashouses - you're right - the reason this is not happening is because the Club no longer has the vision, and the Manager is not good enough at his job to bring youngsters through. Hence DAD'S ARMY wherever you look.

safeashouses i am glad to hear some one with this comment. I agree with all you say. If all we do is keep harping on about would we change this player for a younger player,Yes Yes Yes that's the whole idea of having Academy players coming through in to the team,To rebuild our team for the future of the Club. We should be trying out some of our best young players, even if they have to sit on the bench gaining experience for a while You can bet when their time arrives they will grab the chance with both hands and play their heart out for the Club.If all we are prepared to do is stick with the injury prone has beens, then Ipswich are going to go down very quickly. Then we should look to get rid of the people responsible for this,From top to bottom and Start again. The quicker the better? COYB

Face it , no one knows what REALLY goes on , so its great to read the theories but at 19 , He was offered an opportunity to prove himself - not unrealistic in todays 'real world ' unfortunately Agents get hold of promising kids to line their pockets .
Football is not sustainable the way most clubs run their finances , we are living in a real world - fans need to realise that . It aint some guys hobby anymore - Same point , Mike Ashley buys Newcastle and calls ground Sport Direct - no problem with that at all - Marcus Evans Stadium - anyone ?
We all follow and support the team on the pitch - without companies and businessmen , Professional football will be lost FACT

only having 5 subs on the bench has not helped either. If you could still name 7 then it would be less of a gamble to stick a 19 year old on the bench and then if the opportunity comes to chuck him on when 3-0 up with 20 to go the great!

Jonju11 I can't help but agree the offer was only to get compo. Lad has scored 11 goals this year. Is anyone else in the club even close to that? The club is now a feeding ground for last payday players. The future doesn't look bright and I think it could be league 1 or worse very soon.
