Wright Out of Burnley Trip
Wright Out of Burnley Trip
Monday, 28th Nov 2011 17:33

Keeper Richard Wright is out of Town's match at Burnley tomorrow having picked up a knock, joining David Stockdale on the sidelines. Arran Lee-Barrett will come into the starting line-up with Cody Cropper on the bench.

Wright appears to have been one of a number of players manager Paul Jewell said had been suffering with a niggle in the wake of Saturday's home defeat to Reading, the former England man's third debut for the Blues.

The 34-year-old has had little luck with injuries in recent months with both his two appearances for former club Sheffield United last season cut short by a knee problem which required surgery in the summer.

Lee-Barrett will be making his first league appearance since April, although he did play in the Carling Cup defeat to Northampton earlier in the season.

Speaking earlier today, manager Paul Jewell said Lee-Barrett was understandably disappointed when overlooked in favour of Wright at the weekend: “I had a chat with him on Friday. He wasn’t happy about it and I didn’t expect him to he happy about it, but it’s up to Arran to get in to the team, as simple as that.

“He was disappointed. He hasn’t played a lot of football, neither has Richard, but I just felt that Richard has been outstanding in training, and that’s what I said to Arran.

“Arran’s obviously hugely disappointed but that’s my decision. I don’t pick a team on sentiment, I pick a team on what I see Monday to Friday or what I feel might be right and that’s what I felt was right on Saturday.”

With Stockdale still out with his shoulder injury, Lee-Barrett now has the chance to show his manager he was wrong not to look to him at the weekend.

Stockdale tweeted that he hopes to be back in action at Playford Road this week and sent a message of support to his latest understudy: "Hoping to do some more training this week, so back soon. Sure Arron will show his doubters wrong! Good luck ALB!"

Cropper, an 18-year-old US U20 international, was previously on the bench for the Northampton match in the Carling Cup but is yet to make his first team debut.

Meanwhile, Burnley have announced that there will be a minute's applause prior to tomorrow's game in tribute to Gary Speed.

Moaning is an integral part of this board. Whatever you do, DO NOT SHOW ANY POSITIVENESS. If you do you will be feathered and tarred and driven out of this forum. You need to be miserable to post much on here.

The days of supporting your club through thick and thin are gone. You remember those? The ones where you occasionally moaned but you still supported them because the club meant so much to you. Now people want success, else they moan and cry about how the club is going in the wrong direction.

Cheer the hell up moaners, or else you might find that your moaning drive Marcus away. Bunch of ungrateful shortsighted fools....

For some reason I don't think we'll lose tomorrow ( I know call me nutty) but Burnley have been almost as bad as we have. I'm going for 2-2, and then lose to Watford at home :)

Things go from bad to worse. I pray ALB has a blinder and we win,god I´d kill for a draw but I fear an absolute hammering. The only good thing is we are away from home and I think we play more relaxed away....forgetting the peterborough debacle.

Some of the complaints... ALB is third choice. Its the first time Stockdale has been injured. and i didnt hear too many complaints when Wright appeared on the pitch at 3pm on Saturday. How has he become a has-been in 2 days?

I see this as justice for ALB, Wright should never have been put ahead of him on Saturday. There is a god after all.

Good luck to ALB tomorrow an opportunity to show all the wallies on here that have been putting you down for no good reason. And a chance to show PJ that he should never have made such a blunder on Saturday.

mutters you have my full support.

Ross wallace and Austin are both out what odds on US winning 3-2 with a late winner.

Maybe Wrighty should not have got the nod, lets just see what ALB has in him tomorrow then. Good luck to the lad he will need it.

Fully expecting a defeat, especially with ALB in goal, would be amusing in a massachistic way if it were 3-2 again.
Then again, when we least expect it, ITFC are likely to surprise us and actually not lose, cant see it being tomorrow though

This is so set up for a Town win. I love it when we've got so many injured that the manager's hand is forced into playing people he wouldn't normally bother with. Exactly the same thing happened under Keane and that resulted in our best run of games under him. 2:1 to Town

We have to be one of the unluckiest sides in the league.

Wright was brought in specifically to avoid this situation and low and behold, one game after Stockdale's injury and Wrighty comes a cropper too. I don't mean this as any disrespect to Arran Lee Barrett.

While clearly not first choice, he has put in a number of good performances for us, and hope and believe he can do the same again tomorrow.

Can't say I'm positive about tomorrow, the smart money must be on Burnley, but the team still has my full backing as always.

COYBs!

Come on folks, Burnley are as poor as anyone in the league. They havnt pulled up any trees this season.
Yes the latest situation isnt great, in fact it is.................Either way things like this normally bring things to a head. PJ will have to play those that he has ignored and lots out there have been crying out for - look at the posts when Wrighty was confirmed as playing, loads of posts ALB should get his chance, whats changed in 48 hours?
If we do loose then those calling for PJ to go will be one step closer.
2-1 Town win, ALB to play a blinder!!!!

"We have to be one of the unluckiest sides in the league."

Yes, it was damn bad luck that we were dealt all those injury prone 30 somethimngn has beens that no one else wanted. Damn bad luck that Jewell lost that bit of paper that pointed out how many games Wright missed last season through injury. Damn bad luck in so many ways. So many taht some folk might question how much of it was down to luck.

I had used the experession 'patching up the squad' previously, surely that must be obvious now to all other than to the most deranged. There is no building, rebuiling or even putting in a planning application.

A number of players went out on loan last week. Surely there should have been some money to add some quality, if only for a couple of months to help haul us up the table. Collins and Wabara go back in a couple of weeks, they could be joined in that by Stockdale. With the current rate that players are out for a few weeks with knocks we will soon be down to the bare boards.

Claiming that those pointing out this sorry state of affairs are not supporters is absurd as well as offensive. Something is badly wrong with our club at the moment. I don't actually put the blame at the feet of Jewell. There is a good reason why we are only able to bring in crocks and has beens. Wright being the latest. There is a good reason why the likes of Norris and McAuley left for free - and Leadbitter and Priskin will do likewise. Meanwhile Ainsley and Griffiths are both out of contract in December, with Mark Kennedy, Tommy Smith, Shane O'Connor, Carlos Edwards, Ibrahima Sonko, Ívar Ingimarsson, Lee Bowyer, Josh Carson, Luke Hyam, Jason Scotland, Tamás Priskin, Ronan Murray, Cody Cropper out of contract in the next June.

That leaves us Delaney, JET, Chopra, Martin, Ellington, Bullard and ALB ! ! !

Unless some of them can be persuaded to stay that is an awful lot of players to replace. Maybe that is when the rebuilding is going to start. However unless we have got a rather large amount for fees and decent wages it is going to mean an awful lot of freebies, loanees and more has beens ... again.

And you wonder why some of us are concerned.

Honestly most of the comments on here are a complete joke! You would swear Jewell was the only one responsible for anything bad that has happened to this club over the last 5 years! We have been an average 2nd tier club for the best part of 25-30 years (the entire time I have been supporting this club) if you want success some of you should go & support a Big 4 club. Otherwise, expect frustrating ups & downs as that's the way its always been. Phil, any chance of restricting comments to match reports only or the forum, the way it used to be? I guess I'll just have to avert my eyes!
