Town Make Second Bid for Pompey Pair
Town Make Second Bid for Pompey Pair
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012 14:23

Town have lodged their expected second bid for Portsmouth pair Joel Ward and Jason Pearce (pictured). On Saturday, manager Paul Jewell said he would be discussing whether the Blues would increase their offer with owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg, the first having been rebuffed last week.

That conversation has evidently now taken place with Town this morning increasing their bid from the £1 million believed to have been tabled last week.

Since then, it has emerged that Portsmouth are the subject to a winding up order in relation to £1.6 million of unpaid PAYE and may be forced to make player sales with their proposed takeover having fallen through at the end of last week.

TWTD was first to reveal Town's interest in the duo last Tuesday.

We understand that the Blues are yet to make a renewed bid for Crewe midfielder Nick Powell, an offer for the 17-year-old England U18 international also having been turned down last week.

Meanwhile, Town have announced that there will be an extra train to London running after next Tuesday’s home game with West Ham.

Whatever happens it needs to happen fast before Leicester come in for them.... or any other NORMAL club that is able to easily sign players.....unlike us....

Bring them in & now. Not the day before the west ham game. We need players to gel & training together very important. Not too worried about the crewe kid at the moment. Imo we need to stabalise & secure our championship status. Keeper plus rb urgently required. WE can score but cant keep clean sheets. Pj if you take us down you will never get another job. I dont have much faith in you but this is your last roll of the dice. Sort it now.

Why would leicester really want them? and why would they want to goto a team they wouldnt get into?
Leicester have Mills and Bamba in the middle for a start. If they get then that would free up the sale of St.Ledger too so either way its good news.
We should be able to get them for under 1.6m

As for the crew guy, I'd love it but that one is defo not gonna happen.

Glad to see the second bid having been made sharpish. Let's just hope it's successful. If the receivers have their way it will be.

Need to get these two in as we will struggle to get anyone in better than what we've got in the position were in! we all know that any good, successful team must have a very good goalkeeper and centre back pairing and we havn't either. What happened to talk of Remko Pasveer from dutch side , looks very decent on you tube . Dutch keeper done newcastle and Swansea no harm this year. Must be a better bet than Readings third choice!

Once they hear about our newly painted turnstiles they will sign. They simply wont be able to ignore it. It's the icing on the cake that they will be looking for.

Good! Get it done quick! even 2m for the pair would be a decent price.

They have every reason to come! they only have to do a half decent job and they will both been seen as total heros.... afterall they dont have some hard act to follow do they? They can play an average game week in week out and still be a vast improvement on what we have seen thus far, surely thats an incentive!

ah well your going to have to dig deep mr evans, as the saying goes "a couple of maybe over the odds transfer price signings in summer saves 4 or 5in the winter!"

We need to tie up this deal. It won't be easy as these two are local boys and probably don't want to move. Also we are hanging by a thread outside the relegation zone and they will look at the table and think no way I can't risk being in league one next season.
