Collins Joins West Ham
Collins Joins West Ham
Friday, 9th Mar 2012 16:48

Former Blues loanee Danny Collins has joined West Ham from Stoke City on loan for the remainder of the season. The 31-year-old Welsh international was with Town between August and December making 16 appearances.

Collins says he's made the move to play matches, something he wasn't doing regularly at Stoke: "West Ham are going well in the league and looking for promotion. They are having a good season, so this was a chance for me to come out on loan and get some games in.

"I went out on loan to Ipswich earlier this season and played 16 games there and I've played a few games for Stoke, but I want to be playing week-in, week-out if I can. Hopefully I can come down here, get myself into the team and be part of it.

"I keep myself ready on and off the pitch and have been training hard to keep myself ticking over. I played a couple of games for Stoke over the last couple of weeks. I got the call on Thursday night so I've come down to try to play some games."

He did o'k for us but since most of loans have gone we have a far better team spirit and it has shown in results.

Dont get me wrong JB was fantasic for us last year and I agree deserved to be voted No 1 and was huge influence on staying up. I also agree about how loanees can disapear like ghosts in the night leaving everyone else to pick up th pieces. I hate Norwich as much as everyone and they prove what the loan system does a couple of years back. The back four of many variations has looked poor but is improving with some consistency, long may it last and I guess your midfield may be a big factor. 3 points tomorrow will be tough but fancy it.

Highly over rated IMO . But did good for us when we needed him and wish him well in West Ham reserves

Exactly WestNorfolk, I remember looking at some of the players they brought in on loan and thought they had the makings of a good team (much to my disappointment) and then it didn't work and everyone's favorite goalkeeper Bryan Gunn took them down (much to my amusement)
The problem is, especially in the current climate is that it is increasingly difficult for clubs to compete and they see the loan system as a way of increasing their playing staff, dangerous though when that becomes the core of your side. However, one loanee we have had in this season who I would be more than happy to see sign on a permanent deal is Daryl Murphy, he's been quietly excellent for us this year!

The present defence is no better than it was before Christmas. The difference is the extra energy we've got from the young lads in midfield which means the back four come under less pressure. Jimmy and Bowyer havn't got the legs to last the whole 90 any more and that's why we conceded so many late goals

BuryBlue77: I have to agree with you on Collins and Andrews - both overrated and to be fair we got beat a fair bit with both of them in the side. Andrews scored goals but never dominated the midfield. He also gave us no thanks or a mention for resurreciting his failing career when he went to WBA.

Collins looked good in some games then got caught badly out of position on many others and found wanting for pace. I would rather see two 'Town' players hungry, younger & on alot less money than those two!!

As for Stockdale - I can't agree with you. I think he is a top keeper and would love to see him down here on a permament deal.

Agree with Gazelle

The big diff between the team of half loan players and the team we have now is the system and the fact that we have played with a defensive midfield player
in the side.

I agree with many of the posters on here, i am not against loan players totally. Jim "Magic" magilton started with us initially on loan, look what a legend he became, never forget his hatrick and 90th min equalizer against bolton in the play off semi final. But for every JIm, there will be 20 or more Collins's, they will come and they will go. Itfc will only ever be a stepping stone to get back in the shop window.

Another poster on here wished him well in West Ham reserves, tend to agree, he is not prem quality and will be sent back at the end of the season i expect.

It is no coincidence that with a settled team of hungary , young itfc players , contracted to the club, that performances and results have picked up. Imo there should only ever be one loanee( at most) in the side at a time. Murphy has for me been a good loan signing. Hope we offer him a deal.

WE need players in, who want to play for the club and who will be the future and good enough for the premiership when we get there, Collins doesnt fit that description does he?

And although it wont be this season, ( sorry, but stop being deluded ) the play offs are at least what we can expect for next season, if Jewell keeps the continuity and the loan players to a minimum.... coyb

Warkys Tash, glad someone on here agrees with me about Andrews and Collins, most people that I've voiced my opinions to about them have slated me for it. I thought that Stockdale looked a bit shaky when he went back to Fulham, but then he probably had the jitters from playing behind our (then) shaky defence.
But what a difference a few months make, McCarthy who looked equally ropey when he came in now looks a really promising keeper and Tommy Smith seems to dominate everything defensively and is everybit as good as Sonko is in the air. So I agree that these (Smith's Drury's Cresswell's) are the types of players we want at PR!!!
COYB!!!

People thought he was great when here, but actually think about the facts, our defence was at its worst and is somehow performing better now without, therefore I conclude not needed for this season. Would be good to have someone else in during summer though, a permaent signing please PJ.
