Arrive Early to See Ramsey's Boys
Arrive Early to See Ramsey's Boys

Town supporters are advised to take their seats earlier than usual for tomorrow’s home game against Barnsley with six members of Sir Alf Ramsey’s 1961/62 First Division championship-winning squad being presented to the crowd 20 minutes before kick-off. Skipper Andy Nelson, Larry Carberry, John Compton, Doug Moran, Ray Crawford and Ted Phillips are the club's guests of honour at Saturday’s match.

Town are marking this year’s 50th anniversary of their only championship at tomorrow’s game with the annual ex-players’ dinner being held this evening.

Before the players take to the pitch on Saturday, they and their wives will have a private lunch in the old boardroom, the office of Town chairman John Cobbold during their era, which will be decorated with memorabilia from the championship season.

Chief executive Simon Clegg expects it to be a memorable afternoon: "It promises to be a special occasion on Saturday when we celebrate one of the great milestones in the club's history.

"The 1961/62 champions will be presented to the crowd 20 minutes before kick-off so we'd ask for supporters to take to their seats early if possible so they have an opportunity to salute the achievements of that team."

The two other surviving members of the 1961/62 squad, Aled Owen and Reg Pickett, are unable to attend.

Saturday’s matchday programme, which is also available in an electronic version, also contains a special tribute to Ramsey’s side.

Town are running a ticket promotion at tomorrow’s game, details can be found here.
