Bullard Nearly Opted for Davids-Style Glasses
Bullard Nearly Opted for Davids-Style Glasses

Town midfielder Jimmy Bullard has revealed that he has almost donned Edgar Davids-style glasses due to long-standing sinus and eyesight problems. Bullard returned to training last week having been off ill with a sinus infection.

The 33-year-old told Saturday’s Town match programme: “I’ve had a sinus infection for the last eight or nine days and had been feeling ill with it for about a week before that.

“I struggle with my sinuses anyway, I always have done and just couldn’t seem to get rid of it. I trained with it for a week or so and felt terrible so the doctor decided to have a look and told me I had a sinus infection. Hopefully I’m over the worst of it now and I’m back in training.”

Former Dutch international Edgar Davids famously wore protective goggles due to glaucoma and Bullard says a similar solution has been considered for his problems: “I’ve always suffered with migraines as well so I think that played a part with my sinuses and I was just having these really bad headaches and pains behind my nose.

“I’ve always had a problem with light too, which often causes me to squint a lot and hinders my sight a bit.

“There was a phase in the season where I nearly went down the Edgar Davids route and wore some special glasses!

“It’s at its worst when the sun’s out as the glare really affects my vision when out on the pitch and gives me these blinding headaches.

“I’ve got to sit down with the specialist and sort it out once and for all as it’s just getting worse the older I get.

“But listen, I don’t want to sit here moaning too much as I know there are much worse off people out there.”

The midfielder also apologised to fans for his recent night out in Newcastle with Michael Chopra which led to their late arrival at training and a two-week club suspension for the one-time England call-up: “That wasn’t the best thing we’ve ever done and we knew we’d made a mistake straight away.

“I went to see the gaffer the day after to apologise and I’d like to do the same to the fans because I didn’t act in the right way and I know that now.

“It was a silly thing and I won’t be repeating those actions. It was one of those things I’ve apologised for and I just want to leave it in the past now. I took the rap on the knuckles from the gaffer and the club and I’ve moved on from it.”

Sucro on this occaision and unusually so i have to disagree, he has a responsibilty to the team and the fans and currently he is letting both down badly. I do not know who else was out saturday other than Jimmy and Josh Carson (who was being behaving in a very inappropriate way for anyone irrespective of the fact he is a footballer and a 'role model'.) I would imagine that Cresswell being the professional that he is has better standards than JB and JC hence why he is fit and playing week in week out. I was a very big JB fan, i still want him to come good but currently i cannot help but feel very disappointed with him.

Eyesight problems seem to be rife throughout the team this season.
ALB misjudges shots, defenders lose their men, midfielders pass to the opposition (or sideways) and strikers can't shoot straight.

Is it any wonder that sensible players leave our club for pastures new???? Trotter looked every bit a quality midfield player on Saturday, with the exception of Andy Drury we looked a badly organised Sunday Morning Pub Team!! but the again most Sunday Morning Pub Teams turn up to play after a night on the lash!!!!

No behaviour control within the Club anymore obviously - another indication of how the overaul standards have just faded away.

RIP Sir Bobby - you just wouldn't want to see the goings on of today, and what's happened to this once (not too distant either) great Club.

bluelady - I know how much you love this Club - but EVEN YOU much be hugely disappointed with much of what is evident right now. As indeed I am.
Just cannot believe the situation on so many fronts - too numerous to mention.

As far as I'm concerned when you sign a contract to become a professional footballer you are becoming a role model and an athlete, I doubt very much if there are many athletes out there who would go out drinking, their lives (by the nature of their competition) is all about being as fit as you can be and training takes over, what's been going on here over the last few months with players out on the lash is unacceptable and no wonder we see some lethargic performances at times.

buryblue77 - paid far too much money - and not enough expected of them.
However, they get away with behaviour standards here, than would not be accepted at many Clubs. And it gets worse - that's the big concern because respect degenerates with it.

Oh Well - Happy Days.

........... this is what annoys me - we literally throw money at people like Bullard - then offer promising, talented youngsters paltry 'peanut' contracts, and lose them to other Clubs. Crazy, absolutely crazy.
