Cropper Released
Cropper Released
Monday, 23rd Apr 2012 22:44

Town have told third-choice goalkeeper Cody Cropper that he won’t be offered a new contract at the end of the season. The US U20 international's current one-year deal is up at the end of June.

Cropper tweeted his disappointment: “It’s honestly so depressing but at the same time it’s good to know that I can move on to bigger and better things.”

The 19-year-old, who has missed much of the campaign due to a knee injury, joined the Blues’ Academy on a two-year scholarship in the summer of 2010.

As he was a year older than is usually the case for scholars, he signed a one-year professional contract last summer while he completed his time at Playford Road.

He has been on the first-team bench on three occasions, most recently at Crystal Palace 10 days ago, but never made a senior appearance.

The 6ft 3in tall Atlanta-born stopper, whose father is English, impressed the Town youth set-up in trials during 2009/10, having previously spent similar spells at Leicester, Arsenal, Birmingham, Portsmouth, Wolves and West Ham.

Like 99% or people posting on here (I suspect), I've no idea whether he is, or will be, any good - or if it's a good, or bad, decision by the club.

Wish him good luck though - it's never easy being be told your not wanted.

bluelady - thanks, totally agree and that was indeed what i was trying to say.
newboy - i can confirm i am not one of PJ's "cronies" , and i have posted more than once that i dont know if he will prove to be the man for us.
I prefer to think i just offer a balanced and sensible approach to issues, but im probably talking "*rap".

Everytime a player under the age of 21 gets released everyone says PJ doesnt know what he is doing... they are not all young Messi's you know. Some just dont make the cut.

In PJ we trust... im sure he plans to bring in a goalkeeper/s before the new season

I fail to see why people have issue here. A player that 95% of have never seen competively but has been at the club in the youth set up doesn't make the grade and gets released. Surely this happens all the time at clubs all over the country, just because he is young doesn't mean he is the next Joe Hart.
Given the keeper issues we have had this year if he looked half decent he would have been given a couple of games.

Good luck to the lad but we move on.

His biggest problem - he's a YOUNGSTER and they just don't fit the bill under this ramshackle excuse of so called management.

Club is a complete shambles from top to bottom for the first time in it's history, including some of it's supporters, who are prepared to accept anything.
Well Done the Clowns - hope you're all proud of yourselves.

newboy - you're absolutely right - how these 'blinkered' supporters you have locked horns with can argue the case I DO NOT KNOW.

The evidence is there for all to see what an awful state this Club is in - and yet 'the glass is still half full' - NAIVETY IN THE EXTREME.

I believe the Club is now reflecting the expectation and ambition of the element of support we are relating to.
Why not just roll over - and give up ? - instead of keep coughing up regardless, and accepting the spin.

THIS IS ALL FAR MORE SERIOUS THAN MANY OF YOU WILL EVER REALISE - for whatever reason.

Call me ARROGANT, indeed whatever you want to I DO NOT CARE - what I do REALLY care about is the future of this Club, and it's status within the game.

DO YOU ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

....... or does 'as long as a ball is kicked at Portman Road' apply - if that's the case - as a 'true blue' SHAME ON YOU.

Dozzells Bobblehat - not you again surely. Learn the meaning of a few words like AMBITION and WINNING which would then equal decent dialogue.

Paul Jewell didn't have the guts to tell Cody Cropper what was happening to his face. I heard Cody's agent had to tell him ? Great Management but typical of Jewell People have said that the coaches must have had a say in the decision to release him, They are up in arm's about this and knew nothing about this action, Jewell and Clegg had a meeting and made this decision on their own. As far as the coaches were led to believe Cropper was to be kept on at the end of his contract ,and was to be a big part of towns plans for the next two years. So what does this tell us .Shabby Management every one is working in the dark at Ipswich Jewell is a crap Manager could not even tell the lad the truth and some one else had to do his dirty work. JEWELL OUT CLEG OUT IPSWICH RIP

Unfortunately, as with many topics raised this season, the inmates have again taken over the asylum!.

Lets hope, and I sincerely believe, better results will ensue next season and the inmates will quieten down again.

Better results will, however, only ensue if PJ can find a GK, RB, CH and a tall and robust CF

tellitasiseeit

Would you like to give us a hint of how you get hold of all this insider information. All hearsay, or simply made up!

I'm going to take a couple of years off. I don't really understand any of it and looking for some sort of REASON behind the decisions leaves me completely exhausted.
I'm going to choose brilliant weekends in the Pyreneees, growing some tasty tomatoes and building my business.

This highly paid rubbish is really negative.

As others have mentioned, I've never seen Mr Cropper play and by the sounds of it neither has many on this board so can't really comment on him as a GK, so maybe he wasn't even up to the standard of a starting position..it's been down to the discretion of the coaches.

Anyone on this site seen Cropper will tell you that he is better than ALB or Wright I have seen him but you would rather bleat on about this clown of a manager JEWELL OUT

Is 'righty' telling the truth.

Can anyone who has seen Cropper confirm that he is better than ALB or Wright?

alfromcol - this lad IS good - has all the attributes and potential (which is all you can expect at 19 yrs) to become a VERY GOOD Goalkeeper.

Sadly, another youngster 'hits the road' - when will it end ?

I know, lets do something positive and sign another gerihatrick - that'll make more sense - bet some of you will agree with that, I won't name you !!

h32, I'd never call you arrogant, I can see the ambition you have for the club and we all want to see our club do well. I sometimes wonder if we are all supporting the same team the way we are constantly having a go at each other on here.

@tellitasiseeit, where did you get your info from?

I think most who reads my posts realise I am a supporter of PJ (but not one with blind faith, I want some stability at the club and sacking managers every couple of years doesn't help. If there hasn't been considerable improvement by 10 games in next season then my pro PJ stance will change) and I feel he does have an interest in youth, but I think he wants his own players (which is his one of his downfalls this season, trying to make a team his own in 1 transfer window is too much at once) like he brought in youngsters such as Cresswell and JET and maybe he's looking for some of his own players to come through the youth set up, assuming he gets enough time.

Alfromcol - we shall have to wait and see where Mr cropper goes from here, in his career before we can answer that. Good luck to him .

Irvin - nice.

h32 - congratulations .
