Town in Ellington Exit Talks
Town in Ellington Exit Talks
Tuesday, 8th May 2012 23:30

Town and striker Nathan Ellington’s representatives are understood to be in talks regarding the settlement of the 30-year-old’s Blues contract. Ellington, who played for manager Paul Jewell at Wigan, has made only three starts — just one in the league — and 14 sub appearances without scoring since signing on a free transfer from Watford last summer.

Speaking recently, Jewell, who flew out on holiday earlier today, indicated that he wouldn’t stand in the frontman’s way if he wanted to move on despite having a year left on his contract: “He’s been disappointing Duke, there’s no two ways about it.

“I see him every day in training and I saw a piece where he said he hadn’t had a chance, but what he does in training, or what he doesn’t do, or what other people do in training can highly influence my decision on a Saturday.

“He hasn’t had a run in the team, there’s no doubt about that, but since he left Wigan he hasn’t really had a run in anyone’s team. Maybe he’s one that might have to leave in the summer.”

The Blues boss also said that Jaime Peters might be better off moving on as well after a season in which he featured in only the Carling Cup defeat to Northampton: “I think it’s about time Jaime moved on as well.”

Another person getting paid very well for doing nothing!! He is hardly going to get in any other Championship side so I doubt he would want to negotiate losing any percentage of his last year. He can just sit it out with no worries!

Walberswick, another needless negative comment about the current manager. Well done.

"insert: Useless rubbish comment, pointless hindsight smart mouthed comment, should never have been signed by best mate Jewell comment,Clegg / Jewell/ whole team should be sacked comment, Keane is the devil comment, (bring back Rhodes, Wark, Mariner, Holland Mills, Gio & Pable comment to throw us off a bit) waste of money comment and every other hindsight, told you so comment there is) ... blah, blah, blah.

If he'd have been a hit we'd be singing his & Jewells praises, if he'd married your aunt he'd be your uncle etc ... but he didnt, and the gamble didnt pay off.

Its not your money and the clubs not financially ruined. Can we all move on now we've covered all bases please?

sonian, he was on there, I just put Ingi so looking at it again it was easy to overlook. I was surprised that he didn't work out, out of all of them I thought he would be solid and do a job. I wonder how many people would agree about Andrews being on the list, watching MOTD on Sat he seemed to have a poor game for WBA but somehow gets into their team. Other people must see a different player to me.

As others have said here, we don't know what wages he was on. I suspect that the reason that he was given a two year deal was to "compensate" him for being very cheap. On that level it is a gamble that would have made sense as a squad player. Obviously it hasn't worked out and now they are having a negotiation about how to end it as cheaply as possible for the club.

Although I agree that Ellington hasn't had much of a chance, from what we have seen from him it was very clear that he is nowhere near good enough - his recent (last four years) goal scoring record is so poor it is simply unbelievable. Even the biggest of PJ fan has to admit, that along with Bowyer and Ingimarrsson, these have been extremely disappointing signings. Having to pay TWO of last years signings off surely demonstrates very poor management mis-judgement which I doubt would have been tolerated at any other club.

PJ must do much better this pre-season and improve next season as well - otherwise, his contract will hopefully not be renewed.

Imagine signing a player that is so bad that you would rather pay them to go away?

Never thought it would work soon as we got him, unfortunately the only good memories Mr PJ will have of him are the days back at Wigan (yonks ago).
