Hewitt Set for Double Celebration
Hewitt Set for Double Celebration
Tuesday, 29th May 2012 18:52

As predicted on Sunday, Macclesfield right-back Elliott Hewitt looks set to celebrate his 18th birthday on Wednesday by completing his move to Town.

The Wales U21 international has been at Portman Road today to undergo his medical and do the paperwork on his switch from the Silkmen, who were recently relegated to the Blue Square Bet Premier.

The deal’s probable completion on Wednesday may relate to rules preventing players aged below 18 from signing terms longer than two years with Town likely to have handed Hewitt a three-year contract, perhaps with the option of an additional season.

The fee is likely to remain undisclosed but is believed to be in the region of an initial £250,000 plus the usual milestone clauses building to significantly higher overall total.

Hewitt’s 2011/12 campaign came to an early end in March due to a hip impingement problem which required surgery and he’s due to spend time rehabilitating at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre in the next few weeks.

At last we are showing ambition, bringing in what is hopefully the start of a team building program with promising young and hungry talent. This whole buying an instant experienced team with old boys has been a complete failure. Lets get behind the team and support this hopefull new approach even if it takes us a number of years to get promotion.

Welcome to Ipswich Elliott and all the best for your time with us.

Nice one - No problem with age. Seem to remember a certain George Burley made his debut at 17 at Old trafford marking george best I believe. I see this as a positive step

I have a good feeling about this lad. If he puts his injury/surgery behind him, he could turn out to be a good investment.

PaulNStar: Did you used to be h32? How about DaleyITFC?

PJ did try a quick fix with older players and it didn't work. He has admitted it though and I think he deserves some credit for that. No manager can get near RK for "muppetivity" ( the selling of Jordan Rhodes for a cut price should, if it has not already, go down as one of the biggest cock-ups ever!!! )

Just had a thought PaulNStar: You're Walberswick, aren't you???

As someone said previously this club sinks to new depths they hound a local talented RB out of the club and offer 2/3 years to a second rate welsh player (yes I have seen him play) who will be out of his depth here another Fool Jewell foul up pathetic

Spot on drebblue, in both posts. I have a gut feeling about this lad in that I think he is going to turn into another Cressy, or even better! Some of you guys are beyond belief and come up with such inane nonsense that I think you are Norwich's Waxman in disguise. COYB

Newboy as usual your negative comments are full of sh1te .
I see Sheffield Wednesday have signed another right back already so must really rate Bennett, how can they treat him so badly
And to all the idiots saying Hewitt has only been playing in League 2 ,so has Powell at Crewe and anyone with any sense would like to see us sign him

18 years old, played 18 games for a relegated league two club. long term hip injury.

wouldn't put too much pressure on him to get ITFC promotrd next year

Some really negative people on here, we moan that they're too old when we sign 34 year olds so we sign a highly rated 17 year old and they're too young! give the lad a chance he has a long time to prove himself!

As a pundit once said "you'll win nothing with kids" lets hope this guy comes in and does a Cresswell. Hopefully he will play and Edwards can move further up the field with JET moving to the left wing. Just need a GK and CB now and possibly a big lump up front. COYB
