Central defender Tommy Smith is still to join up with the New Zealand OIy Whites having remained at Portman Road due to a minor hamstring injury. The 22-year-old was due to meet up with his international team-mates ahead of their pre-Olympic friendlies on Monday.

Smith missed last night's 1-1 drawn with Japan’s U23s in Tokyo with New Zealand Football expecting him to join up with the squad for the match against South Korea’s U23s in Seoul on Saturday and the UAE’s U23s (TBC, July 19th), although the injury may also impact on his involvement in those fixtures.

New Zealand’s Olympics schedule sees them play Belarus at Coventry's Ricoh Arena on July 26th, Egypt at Old Trafford three days later and Brazil at St James' Park, Newcastle on August 1st.

Reckon he should only join up with them for the olympic games. Give him a break. Would benefit us in the long run.

Fully trust the medics to keep Tommy in tip top shape, and if his Olympics are as good as his last world cup then he will surely benefit and come on in leaps and bounds alongside Luke Chambers for us next year!

But for now - with all the contract talks around I'm personally loving the headline ..."Smith still at Portman Road" .... let's have a few more of those ASAP as the other contract extensions get sorted ! COME ON !!!

Spot on RaymondovicBlue. The game with Japan last night (NZ time ) ended 1-1. I am expecting this team to do similar things to the 2010 World Cup squad.
