Carson Replaces Injured Hyam

Blues boss Paul Jewell makes one change to his starting line-up for tonight's Capital One Cup tie at Carlisle with Josh Carson returning to the side in place of Luke Hyam, who has a hamstring injury. Youngster Byron Lawrence comes on to the bench.

Town: Loach, Cresswell, Edwards, Chambers, Smith, Drury, Luongo, Carson, Emmanuel-Thomas, Martin, Chopra. Subs: Lee-Barrett, Delaney, Scotland, Stevenson, Murray, Ainsley, Lawrence.

The league is our bread and butter, this is a piddly competition - I think we need a result against Huddersfield or I fear that the players heads will drop, and yes this early into the season.

'Jesus Christ calm down people, go look at the 7 other championship who 'crashed' out tonite, it's not a big deal.. You cant expect to win the league cup so why bother moaning about going out of a cup that we are A) not likely to be able to compete with the big guns(Arsenal,City,Utd etc) anyway and B) going to put extra pressure on a young squad as it will only increase our fixture list. Granted that we do need strengthening in certain areas, imo defence especially, but im sorry this result is not as a big deal as some of you so called fans make it out to be.. Its better to be out of this cup and focus on the league tbh.. cheer up guys

The league is far more important, a good result against Huddersfield will see many fans forget all about tonight. I more angry about our inability to kill off games. We outplayed Watford for 90 minutes a week ago yet still only managed one goal (at the 11th hour I might add). I'm pleased that we're finally starting to hold on to the ball better, but we still have serious defensive problems and insufficient killer-instinct in front of goal. Not calling for Jewell's head, but SERIOUS work still needed if this team is to have any hope of making an impact this season.
Rant over.

ITFC - so predictable like so many on here - as soon as someone says they are not happy with what is happening, they become "so called supporters". And as for worrying about the extra pressure of more games on young players - complete damned rubbish - the likes of Beattie, Wark, Burley, Gates et al were playing more games in a season than most modern players would ever expect to play - and they went to win the FA Cup, UEFA Cup, consistently in the top 5 or 6 of the top league, etc etc etc. So it really harmed them didn't it! True supporters (and the players) should be at the very least disappointed with every loss, whatever the competition!

Well if the lads have already dropped this early into the season there is something seriously wrong with the coaching staff/management, haven't we got a psychologist at the club? - also was Chambers seriously injured tonight or not?

Bad times at ITFC. No ambition from the owner, no consequences for Jewell and no fight from a poor squad of players. What hope have we got? IMO Jewell should fall on his sword, followed by Clegg and Evans should apologise to us fans for leading the club into it's bleakest time since I can remember! For me it's now or never, if the owner has the club at heart he will respond.

It is difficult to know who / what is at fault here. I know ME doesn't want to pay excessive wages and this may be sensible if you look at Portsmouth/ Rangers etc but has PJ improved ITFC since he took over? Yes he has had good results along the way but so did Keane. It can't be just wages as I'm sure we pay at least as much as Swindon for example where DiCanio continues to week in week out get more from his players than PJ does

So what now?..chuck even more money at even more players?..there comes a point when you have to take a look at how we've done things since ME came in - i.e. around 20 players in and out every season - and realise that something is very wrong with our "plan"of how to run our club..Marcus,it's not working.

You need to get rid of Clegg and bring in someone who knows this club & it's history & it's fans inside out.

You need to stop chucking money at one load of players after another.

You need to put in place a manager who's going to have an idea of how we're going to take our club forward over the next 4/5 years without having to have a mass clearout/influx of players every 6 months - we need to put foundations in place, not appoint stop-gap managers in the hope that we'll scrape into the Premiership by throwing money at him and the team.

What Sir Bobby did, what Burley did..thats' where we need to be at.

How's this for an alternative to Jewell - Fabian Wilnis as manager with George Burley as general manager to help him along the way?

IMO we really need to have people in charge who are committed to the Ipswich cause.

so looks like jewell could be sacked after this weekend.. if he fails to bring in some decent signings by friday and then if we lose to huddersfield saturday, it could be it for jewell

lightninboy you cant say he's chucked money at him this season

TownLad21 added 22:55 - Aug 28
then again the class players we are expecting jewell to bring in, are hardly going to be excited about coming to a club that just lost 6-0 and then 2-1 to a lower league team we should be beating easily, jewell has had long enough and this is just ridiculous now

ipswich61 added 22:57 - Aug 28
i say dont wait till sat, sack him now before he brings in more sh#t

TimmyH added 22:58 - Aug 28
The board will never sack Jewell this early in the season, I certainly wouldn't expect it before October as we liked to be perceived as a non-sacking family-esk style club. The dreaded vote of confidence will rear it's ugly head in a few weeks, didn't have 2 before his KO? I know Jewell has had one already at the start of this year.
