Former Blue Richard Wright is close to joining Premier League champions Manchester City on a one-year deal as their third-choice keeper. The 34-year-old is understood to be undergoing a medical at Eastlands.

Wright, who was released by the Blues at the end of last season, left Preston just days after joining the League One side earlier in the summer having been unable to settle in the North-West.

He was once at Everton and he may have been left mentally scarred from that previous experience. And this extra income he will get from Man City has put those issues to rest.
