Murphy at Portman Road
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 16:25

TWTD understands that Daryl Murphy is now at Portman Road as the Blues get closer to completing his season-long loan move from Celtic. The 29-year-old looks certain to be a Town player in time to line-up against Huddersfield at Portman Road on Saturday.

Murphy, who was an unused sub for the Bhoys in their Champions League victory over Helsingborgs IF last night but only as the SPL club were short on cover due to injuries, flew south this morning with the details of the deal likely to be resolved either this evening or tomorrow.

The Irish international’s Celtic contract is up at the end of the season and the clubs have been negotiating the proportion of his wages that Town will pay during the year ahead.

Murphy has always been keen on a return to Suffolk with his family having settled in the area during his two previous spells.

At the end of last season, Town boss Paul Jewell said he wanted Murphy back at Portman Road for 2012/13 but felt that a permanent deal would be beyond the club’s means with the midfielder or striker on a big money at Parkhead.

Meanwhile, efforts are still ongoing to resolve the red tape issues which have prevented French midfielder Cheick Kourouma from signing his contract with the Blues.

The club need assurances from all the sides the 20-year-old has played for since he was 12 that they will waive development compensation which is technically due to them under FIFA rules.

No problem with Murphy joining however its only brought us back what we had last year and 15th place was what we got with that! We also now have only 2 CBs!!! Can anyone actually see the club making more that two signings and Murphy! More to the point can anyone see us signing anyone that will make people think "yes, at last?" I certainly dont so over to you Ipswich, please prove me wrong

Why? Another average player to go with the rest of our average players we have .... Brilliant.

So he is at Portman Road, closer to signing for us, is he!

Boyd and Taylor were here yesterday .... but they're not now!!

With this shower we have in charge, I'm not taking anything for granted. I will be happy enough if he does sign though.

Never since I have been supporting club have we released so many players and not transferred them, signed so many loan players ;or got rid of players who are still under contract without obtaining replacements first.I cannot also remember the last time we had such a small squad.
Seems as though PJ is scrabbling around at the end of this window again to make up the numbers, something he said would not happen again.

Although he should take full responsibility for poor displays on the pitch,he cannot be blamed for transfer fiasco so it must be the organ grinder and his monkey. With Murphy PJ said at the beginning of the window that we could only afford him on loan.He is ok to keep Town in Championship which now seems the limit of Mr Evans ambition, certainly in the short term. The amount of money spent since the end of last season is about the same as 24years ago when £300k was shelled out on David Linighan and £80k on David Hill from Scunthorpe.
My hometown club FC Clacton have lost their Manager and several players in the close season because of the small budget and results this season have been pretty dire as a result. This is no fault of the club as they just dont have the money but the same cannot be said of Ipswich (I hope).
Shant be going to the game on Saturday for only the 5th time in 50 years.

I'll be pleased to see Murphy back as I think he is a good solid forward, however his return alone will certainly not come anywhere near solving the problems, but it's a start !

I seriously cant believe what i'm reading. My/our club has turned into a complete disgrace. As above i have never known so many players to be released for nothing. We continue to bring in utter dross for from other clubs. All we hear week in week out is that our scouting network has been improved yet all we hear is the same old players being mentioned. I for one am seriously loosing patience with the manager, owner and our so-called CEO or what ever he calls himself. Its pathetic, i as a supporter of 25yrs is starting to loose the will to live, so god knows what the younger generation of supporters are thinking.

A decent addition we know what we'll get 100 percent.
Now for some defenders and strikers who can score goals

So uninspiring a headline its untrue. I know Evans has pumped in millions but how have we progressed from the days of JM? Are the powers that be content with mid table obscurity, I think we should be told.

Yawn!! More boring news! Good on him for wanting to come back, but we really need a bit more than journeyman. I really am getting disappointed with ME amition. This club has been slowly dying since he bought the club! Would have rather done a Rangers and fought ourselves back up through the leagues, rather watch this medioca team year in year out!

Murphy is a good honest footballer a much better bet i think than the Peterborough pair if the deal has been done welcome back Daryl.

Seasider - like the 24 years ago reference. I was thinking the same, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. Eventually John Lyall came in and got us promoted with a pretty small squad and few superstars. Ok, Dozzell and Kiwomya were coveted by a few clubs, but only after we'd gone up. Have we sunk as low as the mid-80s again? I fear we have.
