Murphy Completes Loan Move
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 18:44

Daryl Murphy has rejoined the Blues for his third loan spell at Portman Road. The Celtic man will be with Town until the end of the season, when his contract at Parkhead is up.

Murphy said: “I’m delighted to be back at Ipswich. All over the summer I was hoping something would get sorted for me to come back here and thankfully that has happened now.

“I’ve had a long summer break, around eight or nine weeks, but I’ve kept myself ticking over fitness wise and I’m feeling good.

“I'll train with the boys tomorrow, get to know a few of the new faces in the camp and if the manager selects me for the weekend then I’ll be more than ready to get started straight away.”

Capped nine times by Ireland without scoring, Murphy made 32 starts and two sub appearances for Town last season, almost all at left midfield and netted four goals.

He was previously with the Blues during the second half of the 2009/10 season when he scored six goals in 18 appearances. While with hometown club Waterford United, Murphy spent several spells on trial at Portman Road during the 2004/05 campaign but eventually opted to join Premier League Sunderland.

Good to have him back, but its still imperative that we get some permanent signings in, preferably in the back four.

Just need St Ledger for Delaney, Harris or Elokobi incase Cressy leaves last minute, and Paul Gallagher to provide competition on the wing. Wolves have just released Nenad Mijilas he could be a good signing

Out on my own I can see from the comments so far but for me Murphy signing is diabolical. Never seen him have a great game for Town. Always looks to me as though he is going through the motions and that this is a big step down for him. Cue torrent of abuse for me for disagreeing with you all.

A very underrated player, well pleased, ok so not a flair player that excites the crowd, we have jet for that(sometimes) good honest hardworking and contributes so much off the ball. for those who dont rate him, watch his work rate off the ball. loves it here too...coyb

I'm going to disagree with my pal in the perishable inner lining on the shorts (avatar). Murphy is a good pro, strong, holds the ball up well and basically causes unease in defenses so I say welcome back mate, you did ok at the back end of last season so more again please.

I like Murph, and much more importantly he has that all too rare quality in a footballer - he wants to play for Ipswich Town.

Underrated, holds the ball up well and protected Cresswell very well last year. Very pleased with this.

Spot on with protecting Cresswell, precisely why Cresswell hasn't looked so good this season.

If Edwards had the same protection in front of him he would look a better fullback.

Good to have him back; and he obviously wants to play for us ( 3rd loan spell- an ITFC record?).

Time to play Murphy up front, we tried to sign him as a striker originally and I think we need a big man/small man combo up front to help Chops and Taylor.
Lets not have any more of this cautious lone striker stuff paul....be bold...be positive lets start kicking Championship Arse!!!!
