Town Sign QPR's Campbell
Friday, 5th Oct 2012 12:05

Town have completed the signing of QPR striker DJ Campbell on a three-month loan. Earlier today, TWTD revealed that the 30-year-old had arrived at the club to put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him at Portman Road until Saturday 5th January.

As reported last week, the Blues failed to land Campbell prior to the Barnsley game as cover for the sidelined Paul Taylor and Michael Chopra with the striker expected to join Blackpool. But despite protracted negotiations that deal didn't go through.

Having been a youth player with QPR and Aston Villa, much-travelled Campbell began his senior career in non-league with the likes of Chesham, Stevenage Borough, Billericay Town and Yeading before moving into the Football League with Brentford and then the Premier League with Birmingham.

Since then, the Londoner has represented Leicester, Derby and Blackpool (twice on loan, once permanently), before returning to QPR again last summer for a fee of £1.2 million, signing a two-year deal.

Having rarely been involved with Rangers, the former England C international had long been tipped for a fourth spell with the Seasiders.

Campbell, who will wear the Town number five shirt, may well go straight into the team facing Cardiff live on Sky tomorrow evening with Chopra perhaps left on the bench after this week's off-field issues.

Any chance this could be made permanent? Great striker at this level. Welcome to Ipswich! Although if you don't score a hat-trick tomorrow you'll probably get booed off by some our fans!

Can't see a future for him at QPR, so yes a permanent signing to a Championship club looks to be on the cards. Hopefully it will be us

He'll be needed to replace Chops. As I posted some months ago, once a gambler always a gambler and no amount of rehab will sort it - maybe he was attracted to ITFC because we have a horse on the club logo - none of this will help Chops concentrate on what he is paid to do

A quality signing, has scored goals at every level he's played, including 1 in 3 in the Premiership.

Very pleased at him coming, shame it's only for 3 months!

Really happy about this. My mate kept saying we wouldn't get him! Now all he needs to do is score a couple every game ;-) Another player that is going to save Jewell from the bullet.

A very positive signing by Jewell, let's hope DJ makes a positive impact. He has pace & goals in him, just what we need. Yes, a loan signing but potential to go permanent?

Welcome aboard DJ!
