Jewell: Loanee Situation Not Ideal
Monday, 8th Oct 2012 16:43

Town boss Paul Jewell has admitted that the loan situation is not ideal but says he needs to bring in experienced players rather than “younger, hungry” signings until the Blues’ league position is more secure. The additions of Richie Wellens, DJ Campbell and Bilel Mohsni late last week took the total of loanees to seven.

Jewell told the club site: “Bringing in loans is not ideal, I know that, but it’s the situation we find ourselves in.

"We’re not flush with millions of pounds to just go out and spend on whoever we want.

“We keep talking about this being a long-term project, though I know that doesn’t wash with a lot people and I understand that.

“We’d like to go with younger, hungry players, but until we can get a foothold in this division and move forward to a stronger position, we have to go with experience.”

Meanwhile, Portman Road hasn't made the short-list of 2015 rugby World Cup venues, despite "an initial conversation" having taken place.

Would it not of been easier just to go with a blend of experience and youth and stick with it, rather than changing your mind all the time. No team in this division can rely on youth as its still physical and direct and likewise a team full of old experienced players wouldn't cope with the pace of the championship either. I am a qualified coach working in a pro academy and I can't believe jewel hadn't worked this out and developed a plan and stuck with it. The top managers has a system and style of play they believe in and get players in to fit the system. It makes recruiting scouting much easier. I don't believe pj operates this way which is wrong IMHO

If you read this in isolation you would think these are the comments of Someone who has inherited this mess Not someone who has single handily caused them! This man is an idiot

Some on here make me chuckle, poor old Paul hasn't had the money its not his fault. Lyall, Burley, Big Joe all imo did very well on a much smaller budget than we operate on now. There has been more money spent at town this season alone than 70% of other championship sides, yet were in the bottom 2. JEWELL OUT!!!

GiggsITFC If we are relegated this season, will you still back PJ and blame the "not real fans"?

Evans & Clegg should get down on their knees and beg BFJ to come back...

I added a comment on here yesterday. Before we oust PJ we have to have a viable replacement. I suggested Terry Butcher.

If we can't get him, how about Alan Curbishley. He managed to keep Charlton in the Premiership, when in reality, they were too small.

Its ok to slag off PJ but that's purely negative. Try to think of viable alternatives. . . please!!

Trying to start the season 9 games in means you won't get promoted. Fact.
If you want to do better next year now is the time to get a new manager.

So Bolton sack Coyle and we have to put up with Mr Jewell. Come on Mr Evans grow some and do what is best for our club.

I am sure that if he was an employee in another part of your business he wouldn't still be there.

One thing I would like to point out is the fitness of our players. They look tired late into games and conceed goal because of this (Cardiff, case and point).
This lack of fitness could be down to his beliefs that we dont need a propper fitness coach.
We get in loan players, many of which are being loaned out to get match fit. Sort that out and the rest should follow.
He should look to get people in their last year of contract signed up otherwise we will be looking for more loan players next time arround.

Be careful what you wish for. At his previous clubs, when Jewell finally leaves, Chris Hutchings takes over and he does worse than Jewell!

Bergholtblue you mean we might be bottom of the instead of second bottom? JEWELL OUT!!!

Does Jewell mean that the 'experienced players' are not 'hungry'!!!!!!!!! I don't see where the younger signings got us into this mess as none of the 'younger and hungry' players were let play with ANY consistency whatsoever. Carson, Hyam, Murray, and Smith all contracted players signed to keep the bench warm fecking ridiculous, does Jewell know how to pick his nose never mind the starting 11 on a Saturday. IMO younger and hungry players provide good games with positive results with a few 'experienced' players there for guidance. Changes need to be made and quickly, play the youth as they will certainly not let themselves down as they have too much to prove to the Club, to the fans and to themselves..................................

Credit to him for realising that no-one is listening to him anymore.
