Club Looking Into Players' Night Out
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 09:33

Town are looking into sightings of five players out late on Wednesday night, hours after Paul Jewell’s Blues exit and prior to caretaker-boss Chris Hutchings’s first training session at Playford Road on Thursday morning.

Reports that the five - skipper Carlos Edwards, who was 34 on Wednesday, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Josh Carson, Michael Chopra and Paul Taylor — were out in Vodka Revolution appeared widely on social networking sites.

A club spokesman says the matter is being looked into, although no rules were broken: “We are aware that a number of our players were out late into the evening on Wednesday.

“Although they were not breaking any official club rules by being out, this has been brought to the attention of chief executive Simon Clegg and caretaker manager Chris Hutchings who are now dealing with it.”

Edwards had been withdrawn from Wednesday’s Supporters Club AGM as chief executive Clegg felt the players needed to be concentrating on footballing matters given the current situation.

Speaking at yesterday's pre-match press conference, Hutchings said he had told the players he would be taking a "no nonsense" approach during his time in charge.

Last week, captain Edwards said he felt former manager Jewell had been "too nice" during his latter days at the club.

I'm disgusted by this, the club is on its knees, their manager leaves hours earlier and they go out on the p*ss!!

Shows the pure unprofessionalism and arrogance of these players that they think its ok to go out, they dont even try to be obscure by going out of town! Instead they go to one of the most popular places in Ipswich!!

I think its time some of them were shown the door, if your not committed, then get rid!!

really cant believe anyone thinks this is a problem. it was carlos edwards birthday, so he & a few of his teammates went out for a few drinks. im guessing that as theyve broken no rules that they all turned up for training thurs morning which proves that the rubbish being spouted on twitter is ridiculous. just some moron wanting to cause a stink. quit sure if jet had been as pissed as this idiot said he wouldnt have been in any condition to train next day. and was this person reporting this on twitter there all day too then. maybe it was he/she whowas pissed out of their head thus the stupid twitter posts. im guessing too that those people who have a problem with this dont go out on their birthday. as others have said as long as they didnt cause any trouble, turned up on time for training next day & are fit to play on sat then there simply isnt a problem.

I love the way people on here think its ok for a group of senior players to go out on the p*ss hours after their boss walks out and the club sit bottom of the league, oh and they are expected to train the next day.

I work and I dont go out on the p*ss on a work night because I want to make sure i do my job to the best of my ability.

This lot havent exactly been pulling up any trees this season have they yet they seem to think its ok with this kind of behaviour.

If you lot on here cant see it being a problem, I suggest you equally dont mind watching league 1 football next season.

And yes I would ban them from a curry on a friday night, becuase they are in a priveliged position and supposed to be athletes, its called being professional!!

Here Here! Talbs - yet again in agreement with you, not the way to be behaving. At least it should of been delayed until a more convenient time. Shows something about the mentality of some of the players at this club which is no doubt an underlying problem and there is no doubt also in my mind that quite a few have let PJ down.

As mentioned people are forgetting the position they are in and how good money comes to them easily so should set standards accordingly particularly at the position the club finds itself in which is at it's lowest ebb for many a year. Get it in your heads players!!

Hiya TimmyH, sorry for sounding like some sort of old fart ranting on here, I just am apopletically (sorry if wrong spelling) angry that all of us work hard all week, love our club dearly (remember this is OUR club!), pay a small fortune every week and here are these so called professional footballers displaying all the characteristics of, quite frankly, not giving an absolute monkeys!

I'm ashamed of them, its an absolute disgrace.

I was thinking of a low fat vegetable Korma actually!!

It's their call on how they behave and much like with the rest of us, poor judgement creeps in sometimes. It's history now one would hope.

More importantly, it'll be interesting to see how the team respond on Saturday. Another poor show and perhaps they don't give a toss. A positive response and perhaps much of the issue did actually lay with PJ's approach and decision making.

red564, your right it is their call.

But even you must admit how absolutely appalling it looks that this group, including the so called club captain, go out on the razz literally hours after their boss walks out with their club bottom of the league, not mid table, or even 3rd/4th, bottom!

As I said in my earlier post, even if they were a bit more intelligent and went out of town or somewhere more discreet. But they didnt, either becuase they are stupid or arrogant, they decided to go out in one of the towns most popular bars surely knowing they would be spotted, I mean, how thick is that!

Yep, I'll conceed that one.

We're all bright enough to realise that this could be good, bad or indifferent. It's just as sad that Joe Public jumps on them from a great height and takes a negative view with such ease. I've been in their position and have some sympathy.

As said, lets see what happens tomorrow and fingers crossed, the tide will turn.
