Martin Set for Exit Claim
Sunday, 4th Nov 2012 11:08

Town will look to sell midfielder Lee Martin in January, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. Contract talks with the 25-year-old, whose current terms are up at the end of the season, have been on hold since August.

However, with new manager Mick McCarthy only having taken over on Thursday, it’s highly unlikely that any decisions have yet been made regarding players' futures.

Even if the Blues and Martin are unable to agree new terms before January, that’s no guarantee that the Ex-Manchester United man will be sold in the next transfer window.

Two years ago, with Town similarly struggling at the wrong end of the Championship , the Blues turned down offers from Crystal Palace for David Norris and Damien Delaney in order to keep them to help in the fight for survival.

Meanwhile, ex-Wolves scouts Dave Bowman and Ian ‘Taff’ Evans are again mentioned in connection with moves to the Blues, as reported after their departure from Molineux on Friday.

Elsewhere, it's reported that Blues owner Marcus Evans consulted with former boss Paul Jewell about his potential successor during the Liverpudlian's time as manager at Portman Road. Jewell, who left Town by mutual consent a week and a half ago, and Evans enjoyed a close relationship during his time with the Blues.

Not sure we will get much, if anything, for Martin, clubs know he has only 6 months left on his contract. He will prob hang out for a big wage packet and find out, like Reo that unless you are a prem player (or signing for Roy keane) you wont get one.

I think u will all know wot I am going to say !!! I will be sad to see Charlie leave if he can't agree terms and I hope we can't agree so see u later .I read in one newspaper today that Lee Martin mis-hit his shot that lucky fell to dj who showed him the end product GOAL !!!! I have seen better winger or players in Sunday league football that could do a better job than him

I think some of the criticism on here for Martin is very harsh.

He always gives 100% and works very hard chasing the ball down and has a good cross on him.

My only criticism of him is he doesnt score enough goals, if he could add 10 - 15 goals a season I think he would be the finished article.

I suspect he was signed on a top dollar wage bill which is no longer sustainable.

In the old days if we could get top dollar I would say it would be wise to move him on if the big man can get one of his targets in however, with him on a free in the summer, I suspect he will become yet another signing we got for top dollar and have let go for nothing.

That side of the club has to change as its just not sustainable signing players on big tranfers/wages and then simply letting them run their contracts down with no return on the investment. Its rank bad business.

Good news, how about taking a few more with you who got us in the position we are:
Lee Barratt, Edwards, Smith, J E Thomas, Chopra, Scotland & Ellington. All are a waste of space and would not have got into our reserve side ten years ago

Critisism of Martin is unfair he is one player who gives 110% albeit his finishing is poor. He has good movement and touch but can be replaced easily and could save the club money.
Re Carson I don't ever see him breaking into the first team as a regular.
Seems to have lost his way and needs to move on to save his career

Martin undoubtedly does give 110% each match but his goals to games ratio and assists for an attacking midfielder are poor. IMO he is a squad player for ITFC and his new contract should reflect this if he gets one.
However in todays climate if we could get 500k- 1 mill for him i would definitely accept that. i honestly don't think we will miss him if we put JET on the left and Carlos and right of midfield.Besides he aint that good?? Headless chicken maybe?
As for ME consulting with PJ on his successor well that is wierd? 'So Paul you couldn't do the job.Know anyone who could do better?'
Glad to be rid of the horrendous Jewell/Hutchings reign and so happy to see mighty Mick aboard kicking some ass.! COYB

Emma - I think that more of the players will be crying when Big Mick gets into them again on Monday!!

I think Martin should stay as he does give his all, JET and Chops will need to sort themselves out if they want to stay past January!

As much as i rate and would love to have George Boyd we have to remember it was a Jewell target. Mick might have his own different targets in mind.

i agree dayley, i dont think Mick will put up with Chopra for long ,he is underachieving, always has baggage that needs sorting, and has done little or nothing to pay the Club or fans back for the support he has had, Hopefuly Mick may have better luck in getting new players in .AND the commitment from M E to do so .

As an old 'ex US Marine ' mate of mine used to say - 'You wouldnt want to share a Fox hole with him '!!! . MM will not put up with any big time charlies and we do have afew on the books at the moment .....
BUT - After Saturday - i am so full of positive vibes I do not want to read any more 'Clegg this ' , Clegg that - We support the team and as we all know - if we start winning and get up the table , no one gives a monkeys what the Chief did or didnt do - It is what happens on the pitch that matters - So any Jonny pessimists on here go find another forum to moan and go jump in a big Fox Hole together
