Strong Town Squad Facing Johnson's Walsham
Monday, 12th Nov 2012 18:07

Town have named a strong reserves squad for Tuesday’s Suffolk Premier Cup first round tie against Walsham-le-Willows at their Summer Road ground (KO 7.45pm). The game will see the Blues come up against Gavin Johnson, a member of John Lyall’s 1991/92 Second Division title-winning side.

Michael Chopra, Andy Drury, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Elliott Hewitt, Scott Loach, Jason Scotland and Bilel Mohsni are in the 16 making the trip to West Suffolk.

Manager Mick McCarthy and his staff are also set to make the trip to run the rule over fringe players they have only seen in match action once - last week's U21 defeat to Swansea - since the change of management.

The winners of Tuesday’s much-delayed game will play Felixstowe and Walton United away in the quarter-final of the Premier Cup in the week commencing January 7th. Town have re-entered the tournament this year after a two-season absence.

Squad: Ainsley, Chopra, Drury, Ellington, Emmanuel-Thomas, Hewitt, Hyam, Lawrence, Lee-Barrett, Loach, Mohsni, Murray, October, Scotland, Thorsteinsson, Whight, Youga.

Gavin Johnson would walk into our team, even at his current age and level of fitness.

Interesting. Perhaps this is big Micks way of telling Chopra and JET that they are not too 'big' to be playing at this level. Both of these players have been let down's so far - will be interesting to see if MM can motivate them. I suspect if they continue to mess around, both will be shipped out.

JET was far from a let down Sat.. Great piece of skill in the centre circle and pass for Carlos to help set the winner up!

My boy is one of the mascots so well up for it.Walsham are making a real effort to make this a good night for all. It's good to see people in the local area excited about seeing ITFC playing locally - could be a good public relations affair if the players mingle and sign autographs etc once the game is done. After the win on saturday it'll be nice to see if the fringe players make a real effort to keep the momentum going and fight for their place as they may well make up the bulk of the first team once the loanees return. Apparently both MM and TC are due to be there. £8 adults £4 concessions. COYB (and Walsham!).

Played against Gavin Johnson and with him- I bet he still remembers losing to 'the pride of mid Suffolk' Stowmarket High whilst playing for Stowupland HIgh in 1984. I think we won 4-1 - Good job he was good at football Stowupland was a crap school

Daleys got a point - if we are playing cricket

I droped a half chance of him a couple of years ago when he had scored 20 odd, he finished 120+ not out......

A good chance for some of the players to try and impress who have not played for Mick yet.
Players like Chopra.Scotland.Hyam.Loach.work your socks off and have good games and show the boss that you to are good enough to picked for the first team.
Good luck to you all and score plenty of goals and keep a clean sheet

Shouldn't that be: Gavin Johnson, the former Suffolk schoolboy from Old Newton. It was his very own non-defining relative clause.
