Cresswell Out to End Millwall's Unbeaten Run
Friday, 7th Dec 2012 06:00

As well as looking to continue Ipswich’s improvement in form Aaron Cresswell is also focused on ending Millwall’s long unbeaten record.

The teams clash tomorrow for the first time this season and Cresswell admits the Lions’ amazing turnaround in form has impressed him.

After losing five of their first seven league games in the current campaign Kenny Jackett’s men have avoided defeat in their last 13, a run that has seen them gatecrash the play-off places.

Cresswell said: “They look a good, organised team, very hard to beat. But hopefully we can turn that round on Saturday. All the lads believe we are going to pick up the three points.

“That’s what comes from picking up a few results and improving our confidence. We’ve had some good results away from home and there’s no reason why we can’t win on Saturday at Portman Road.”

The former Tranmere left-back is also hopeful that Town have addressed the defensive issues that saw them lose 5-0 and 6-0 at Crystal Palace and Leicester respectively in an otherwise upbeat spell under new boss Mick McCarthy.

He added: “You’d like to think that’s gone now. We’ve got to put that behind us and keep looking forward to the next game and the next game after that.

“It’s always different when a new manager comes in. They’ve got different philosophies and different ways of playing the game. There’s been a lot of chopping and changing in the side since he’s taken over.

“We’ve got a steady back four now and we are looking to keep it tight at the back. We always work on our shape. TC [Terry Connor] and the gaffer will take the training and we’ll do certain stuff with the defence, midfield and the attackers.

“In the last few games I don’t think the gaffer has changed the back four much and we’ve had two good results. That’s nothing against the lads who haven’t been playing but we’re looking a good unit, with a good shape, at the minute.”

Hyam back in for Drury only change from last week ? If Hyam still injured I still fancy someone else to replace Drury. In any event I still fancy us for 3 points. COYB

I don't think Millwall will cause us any problems if we play like we played in the last 2 games COYB!

It's good to hear the players sounding confident as long as they keep up the work rate. Hard work is the bread and butter, only through that can we afford to show some confidence and flair. I think a draw for this one but if the PR crowd really get behind the team then a win is possible.

Confidence is great, lets hope its not over confidence. Complacency can easily kick in + those dreadful mistakes can creep back in! MM wont let that happen!

Hyam (if fit) v Trotter would be a very interesting match up in midfield.
All eyes would be on that battle!

I agree Hyam should come back in for Drury, we never would have beaten Bolton if Mick hadn't made them subs last week. Millwall are on a good run but i can see us winning! COYB

thebeat: Ebanks-Blake does have family up the road in Cambridge so it could be an attractive move for him personally as well as professionally but he has always seemed a bit hit and miss (but then most strikers are). I think he had more physical presence than any striker at Town so he could be a decent acquisition if McCarthy and Connor can work more confidence into him, and his time as Man Utd. apprentice could reignite a decent partnership with Lee Martin and do them both some good. Yes, I think I would like to see him here, there is still time for him to show his best form.

Well, Ebanks-Blake maybe more hungry than a few of our squad.... as for the Millwall game, as I have said before there is no team in this country of concern... and as all of them there is no easy games either.... if you work that one out, let me know what I'm on about : )
