Suffolk police have praised Town fans for their behaviour in Milan and they have received similar reports from their colleagues in Italy.

Chief Superintendant Aldwyn Jones said: "I have spoken to the Deputy Chief of Police in Milan, Lucio Carluccio, and he was delighted with the way that Ipswich Town fans behaved, stating that they were a credit to the club. The fans were in the stadium for around five hours in total and were asked to remain for 30 minutes after the game had finished to allow the Inter Milan fans to leave first. The fans were very good humoured and continued to sing until they left. The British Consulate have confirmed there were no reported incidents either at the stadium or within Milan."

David Sheepshanks also applauded the 10,000 strong Blue Army: "We hear from the deputy head of police in Milan that he's delighted with the behaviour of our supporters. The Football Association appointees with us and our own police have also spoken to the consulate and they've confirmed that there has been no trouble whatsoever. Not only have there been no arrests but there hasn't even been an incident. It's a tremendous tribute to all of them. Whatever disappointments we had on the pitch, this was really a triumph off the field and I think it's done a lot to restore the reputation of English fans abroad. We took 1,000 to Moscow, 3,000 to Helsingborg and now 8,000 to Milan. This is exactly what football is about. No team is anything without their supporters and I can't applaud our fans enough."

Sheepshanks spent yesterday doing a bit of sightseeing in the Duomo area of Milan along with huge numbers of Town supporters.
