Drury and Lee-Barrett Released
Saturday, 4th May 2013 06:00

TWTD understands that Andy Drury and Arran Lee-Barrett have been told they will not be offered new contracts by the Blues, while Lee Martin has been handed a new deal on significantly reduced terms. Manager Mick McCarthy met with the members of his squad whose contracts are up at the end of the season over the last few days.

Despite the offer, we understand Martin also seems likely to be on his way over the summer with the club and the player some way apart regarding the terms of a new deal.

Drury became Paul Jewell’s first signing when he joined from Luton for a fee of £150,000 in January 2011. The 29-year-old went on to make 46 starts and 18 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring four goals.

Lee-Barrett, 29, rejoined his hometown club as the replacement for the retiring Shane Supple in August 2009, having been released at 16 by the academy. He made 40 starts and two sub appearances.

Martin was one of Roy Keane’s first signings, joining from Manchester United for a fee understood to be approaching the £2 million mark in July 2009 on a four-year deal believed to be worth around £13,000 a week. The 26-year-old made 89 starts and 17 appearances from the bench, scoring six times.

We understand third-choice keeper Jason Brown, who joined on a short-term contract in March, is set to be offered the chance to extend his stay at Portman Road.

Good luck guys. ALB and Drury; Decent squad players. No more. No less
IMO i would have kept ALB over Brown, but im pretty sure/very hopeful another keeper is on the way in.
Drury was never good enough to play on a weekly basis, nor did he seem to have the stamina. However hr put a shift in, was on low wages, didnt cost much, and didnt do much wrong. We got what we payed for. Clearly MM is planning on a couple of CM's else why release a player on low wages?
Martin; As much as i like him, his departure has seemed on the cards for a few weeks now. If we sign Adomah in the summer i will get over it pretty quickly.

Difficult to see most players go, the long rebuild under Mick starts now, the guy is very experienced and I trust his judgement.

Tbh I think MM will be looking for a GK to challenge Loach for #1. ALB is decent back up but Im sure he would prefer to play first teams games elsewhere, he deserves it.
As for Drury, Hyam has become and will be a mainstay in the middle of the park for years to come. Will be very interesting to see who MM sees as a long term partner for Luke.
Martin is overpaid and if he wont agree to lower terms its best he be off. We have Tabb, JET and maybe Murphs (if he signs) all capable to cover left wing. Also I expect Carson to come back and make a real go of cracking the first team during pre-season.

Thanks guys for your service, best of luck finding clubs!
