Tranmere Boss Hopeful Williams Will Sign
Thursday, 27th Jun 2013 11:36

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore says he’s hopeful that out-of-contract keeper Owain Fon Williams, who is understood to have been offered terms by the Blues, will sign a new deal at Prenton Park. Blackpool and Bristol City also reportedly offered contracts to the 26-year-old this summer.

Moore says the Welshman, who is currently training with Tranmere, wants to remain with the League One club having turned down interest from elsewhere: “Fonners has said he loves it here and doesn't want to go anywhere else.

“He's had offers from elsewhere that he has turned down and says he wants to stay here, so hopefully we will get that sorted soon.”

While a switch to a Championship club may have held some attractions, Williams may believe he has more chance of playing first team football by remaining with Rovers in League One.

Having released Arran Lee-Barrett and Jason Brown at the end of the season, Scott Loach is currently Town’s only senior goalkeeper and one, probably two, new keepers are likely to be on manager Mick McCarthy’s summer wish list.

The Blues have held talks with West Ham regarding Stephen Henderson returning on a season-long loan with McCarthy not ruling out the Irishman rejoining the club earlier in the week, while Millwall’s David Forde is also believed to be amongst the keepers interesting the Town boss.

Long time to go before the season starts, as Jet said last year" it will be ok when season starts!!!" Differance is this year, under Mick & TC it more than likely will.

Much has been said that every year the spin is the same - things will get better, we've reached the point where we feel quietly confident, and morale is high. This year it feels a bit different as it is more about maintaining momentum rather than restarting from scratch. Optimism from supporters is much more unified and I get the feeling the same can be said for the team. I'm an optimist - even when propping up the table I think we can be champions until it's statistically impossible but I'm also pragmatic enough to realise staying up is enough. This season my pragmatic side says the play offs - I don't need to say where my dreaming optimistic side thinks we'll finish.

By all accounts 'Fonners' has problems with handling, so no big miss there. Not sure if we need a new no 1 or no 2 to Loach! This area has been a problem for a number of years and we never seem to sort it! Let me think about it................................no, still not sure!
