Martin Set for Millwall
Tuesday, 2nd Jul 2013 21:11

Former midfielder Lee Martin has reportedly agreed a one-year deal with Millwall and is set to undergo a medical in the next few days.

Martin, 26, was initially mentioned in connection with the Lions last month when a number of other clubs were also said to be interested.

After four years at Portman Road, Town offered Martin — who is based close to Millwall in Bromley — vastly reduced terms in May but the winger opted to move on and look for a new club.

I'm sure Millwall fans will love him for the first few months as he tears around like a headless chicken. After that, they will begin to work out that he actually contributes very little and is akin to a sheet of tissue paper blowing about in the wind.

Tried hard without noticeable results and accumulated too many costly and unnecessary cards. We can get better value.

I assume this will free up some cash to bring in someone more productive...

Good luck at Millwall...... at Ipswich if you play poorly at least we only go on message boards, I'm sure the 'wall fans will be, how should we say it... err a bit more passionate, and sometimes passions spill over.

Just imagine if we were some how able to merge JET's talent with Martin's work rate! WOW What a player he would be!

Probably a siging on fee, probably £5k-£10 a week. A one year deal seems ok to me!!

I reckon this could be almost identical to the Liam Trotter situation: underwhelming for us but then moves to Millwall where they let him play his best and he becomes one of the first names on the team sheet every week.

I always felt sorry for him when people chose him as a target for all their hate. I feel that it was uncalled for and largely unnecessary. Best of luck to him (although not enough to hurt our ambitions for next season!).

JWM: My concern would be if we had a player with Jets work-rate and Martins talent!! Whatever did happen to Pablo Counago?

Just looking at his face tells you that the lights are on but no-one is home.

Never questioned his commitment - pity he couldn't play football.

A casualty of a new manager coming in, who needs to reduce the wage bill, in order to bring in his own players. Martin, out of contract, was always going to be one who was likely to move on.

£2 million and a 4 year contract to ITFC UNSEEN!!...............Ferguson and Solskjaer still laugh about this one.

All the best Lee...gave it his best most weeks but unfortunately lacking quality and goals, be interesting to see what wage he is on at Millwall - doubt he'll be on what he what he was here.
