McGoldrick Deal Signed
Thursday, 4th Jul 2013 13:05

Town have confirmed that striker David McGoldrick has signed a two-year permanent contract at Portman Road. The 25-year-old agreed the terms of the deal in January but was unable to formalise the contract until his time at Nottingham Forest was officially at an end.

Having spent the first half of 2012/13 on a half-season loan at Coventry, where he scored 17 times, McGoldrick joined Town on a 93-day loan in January, the longest period permitted.

After scoring four goals in 13 starts and one sub appearance for Town, his spell came to an end, but he remained training at Playford Road for the remainder of the season with the Blues continuing to pay his wages until the end of his Forest contract on Sunday.

McGoldrick is currently with the rest of the Town squad at their training camp at Carton House in County Kildare.

That will do nicely...good imaginitive player who brings others into play but as said not really an out and out goal scorer.

Pleased with this. Loads of skill and holds the ball up well but didnt turn out to be the goal machine he was at coventry. Suprised in a way as many top scorers in league one have done well higher up eg holt lambert rhodes.

Big problem with DMG is he is terribly slow , probably slower than Pablo

People have said he's not a 15-20 goal a season player, but he was on goalscoring fire at Coventry and his ratio at Town, if continued, would be at 15 a season, in fact with longer to fit into championship this season, i can see him bettering that. Others on site today are worrying about lack of singings but it seems to me as though MM is gradually building a side, largely based on success of his time last year, for a big push next season. And some of his trialists may turn out to be gems, as icing on the cake!

We don't need him to be a 20-goal-a-season striker. If himself, Nouble, Murphy and Taylor score between 10-15 goals each with 10-15 from midfield and 5-10 from the defence then we shall be well on our way.

BuckieBlue totally agree with you.

i dont understand why people seem to want such a massive squad we have signed 4 and kept most of last seasons team that were in play off form under mick

lets do what has worked well in the past and when we have an injury chuck our best youth player in that position into the starting line up encourage him let the senior players help him along and then hopefully that youngster can become a regular

we will never know about some of these kids unless they get a run in the side

Garv - you're right - strange how people lose sight of the 'bigger picture' and get so excited........

Thia guy is a good player and signing - but don't think for one minute we can rest with what we've got - a couple more substantial signings needed for sure.
