McCarthy Delighted With Mings's New Deal
Friday, 30th Aug 2013 06:00

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he’s delighted that 20-year-old left-back Tyrone Mings has signed a new contract until the summer of 2015. The former Chippenham Town man is currently sidelined with a knee injury but is expected back midway through September.

McCarthy said: “I’m delighted for him, delighted for us. We signed him, he cost us next to nothing and the biggest compliment I can pay him is the day that he played in the first team against Reading, the best left-back in the Championship wasn’t playing and we didn’t miss him. That’s not a dig at Cressy, that’s a feather in Tyrone’s cap."

The Blues boss was impressed that Mings managed to keep playing at the Madejski Stadium despite suffering his injury after only 20 minutes: “It was remarkable that he came off at the end with a medial ligament injury.

"When he did it I was saying ‘Are you coming off?’, but he was having none of it, he stayed on. He’s a tough lad. I was delighted with him and I’m even happier still now that he’s signed a new deal.”

Hard not to think that, but having seen how he played in very difficult circumstances at Reading, this is great news however you look at it.

cressy wont go as there are better left backs abroad for less money. Prem clubs that would be interested don't have the budgets ie palace. So im glad as we need him

I no we want players to come in and help us improve to get up the league. But we are so good at buying youngsters from lower leagues and making them better
