Tanner to be Sold
Tanner to be Sold

Latest Town bad-boy Adam Tanner is to be sold. Town seem finally to have run out of patience with the centre-half and his Ipswich days are numbered. However, given the severity of the charges against him he has been told to expect a prison sentence.

The Essex based player is charged with driving whilst three times over the limit and failing to report an accident. The 26-year old was arrested on November 18th last year in Witham, Essex. He was driving a silver Mercedes which was in collision with a parked car, but drove away without reporting the crash. Police eventually caught up with him and breath tested him, a test he failed.

At Chelmsford Magistrates Court yesterday Tanner admitted all charges and is due back in court for sentencing on February 21st. He has been given an interim driving ban and is currently being treated at a London Clinic and is attending sessions at Alcoholics Anonymous.

Tanner's Town career started brightly when he scored a cracking goal on his debut in a 4-1 win at home to Leicester in one of George Burley's first games in charge at Portman Road. He also scored the winner in the win at Anfield a few weeks later.

However his career floundered when he tested positive for cocaine in 1997 when he received a three month ban. Ipswich Town stood by him then and he appeared to be back on track until a knee injury ended his 98/99 season prematurely. He hasn't figured at all this season and now seems on his way out of Portman Road for good.
