Blues Linked With Deadline Move for Villa Youngster
Wednesday, 27th Nov 2013 21:07

Town are targeting a deadline day loan move for Aston Villa youngster Jordan Graham, according to various reports.

The Coventry-born 18-year-old winger, previously an England U16 and U17 international, is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League side but is a regular in their U21s.

A move for a young wideman would be a surprise with Jordan Adekunle and Jack Doherty the same age and playing the same role, while the Blues only added Stephen Hunt to their more senior wide midfield options a fortnight ago, although Graham plays primarily on the right.

Speaking at the end of last week, manager Mick McCarthy said he had no deals lined-up to go through prior to Thursday’s 5pm loan deadline, although admitted that he would like to make some additions: “Not at the moment, no. I’d like to [bring someone in], just to beef the squad up, but we’ll see.

“It’s a difficulty that because bringing young players in from the Premier League, the first thing they say is that they want them to play because that’s why they’re sending them out.

“Bringing senior players in from other clubs who might be disenchanted, they want to play. Coming here over Christmas, they might [not want to come] if I’m not promising that they’ll play.

“And let me tell you, they’d have to be bloody good players to get in the team, that’s my view. It’s not easy just getting loan players to come and beef the squad up.”

McCarthy was still looking to get Anthony Wordsworth out on loan, a move to Preston having fallen down a fortnight ago, while other younger members of the squad could be sent out for spells to gain experience.

Meanwhile, former Blues skipper Terry Butcher has handed ex-Town U18s captain Liam Craig the armband at Hibernian. Craig skippered the Blues to the 2005 FA Youth Cup during his time at Playford Road.

Elsewhere, former Town striker Michael Chopra will be called to give evidence at a trial at Newcastle Crown Court.

can't say i've ever seen him in action but hopefully a bit of flair and pace on the wings is what MM is going for - especially with someone the presence of Murph in the centre

Why would they "have to be bloody good players to get in this team" MM ?
Nouble and Anderson play every week and there both not good enough for the championship

Still not convinced, but the Birmingham paper seems to think there might be something in it and he's clearly off somewhere, judging by his Twitter.

Wonder if he'd be part of a deal seeing Cresswell going to Villa?

What we going to do with Anderson if this guy comes? Send him out on loan to Chelmsford or somewhere else of that standard, he might come back nearly good enough for the Championship.

Jordan Graham is definitely worth bringing in ... Have seen him play, and he will make it for sure.... mark my words

To be honest, if we're going to bring in an 18 year old then i don't see why we're sending the likes of Hewitt and Marriott out on loan. This kid could be a gem in the making but he's still not going to be our future if he is. So what's the point? I'd much rather bring our own youngsters on than Aston Villa's.

"They'd have to be bloody good players to get in the team." What?? Anderson and Tabb are among the more hopeless players to pull on a Town shirt in recent decades and boy do they face some stiff competition. MM's loosening grip on reality is a worry.

We do need a speedy winger ??? as proven by what Leicester had !!!
By the way Mr Chopra you have not got the backing of ITFC this time whatever it is !!!!!!

Michael

It's all steps down the ladder really.. The reason why the likes of Marriott and Hewitt are getting sent out on loan is because mick obviously doesn't think there quite ready for championship football whether we agree or not.. The championship is a step down to Jordan just as league one is for Hewitt.

Can't quite understand why you would bring a youngster with no first team experience when MM has sent our youngster with no first team experience out on loan

He's not being brought in as a replacement for Marriott or Hewitt as neither are right midfielders! Considering the majority on here don't rate Anderson I'm not sure why people don't like the look of this deal!
