Hewitt and Marriott's Gills Lose Friday, 24th Jan 2014 22:02 Jack Marriott made his debut as a late sub and Elliott Hewitt played the full 90 minutes as Gillingham lost 2-1 at Brentford.
Marriott, who is on loan with the Gills for the rest of the season, came on as a 79th minute sub and almost netted an equaliser seven minutes later but Bees’ keeper Stuart Nelson saved.
The striker later tweeted: "Delighted to [have] made my debut for [Gillingham]. A disappointing result and probably should [have] scored the equaliser but on to the next one now!"
Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s not yet decided whether he’ll extend Hewitt’s loan or that of fellow right-back Freddie Veseli, who is currently with Bury.
“Not at the moment,” said McCarthy, who is understood to be set to add another right-back, Middlesbrough’s Frazer Richardson, to his squad on loan. “I think Elliott’s got about another two weeks left because they kept the 93 days going despite his injury.
“It’s important for him to get games so I’ll be speaking to Peter Taylor. I think they’d love to keep him and it depends what happens.
“I’ve got him on 24-hour recall at the moment. If I had somebody I could replace him with I’d be tempted to leave him where he is.
“Because if he plays the next 20 games for them, I’ll know that he’ll be better off for next season and maybe he can come and be our regular right-back.
“But if I bring him back and he’s sat on the bench, we’ll learn nowt about him and we’ll be back to square one.
“Freddie, if he’s playing, he can stay there and play. He’s done all right. We’ve had him watched.”
Veseli and League Two Bury are at Accrington Stanley on Saturday. The former Swiss U21 international has made three Shakers appearances so far.

I have to say Mariott looked very lively once he got on tonight and if it wasn't for a great stop from Brentford's keeper, he would have got his debut goal! Would rather him than the likes of Nouble on the bench atm.

Get him back here, would rather him sit on our bench than on Gillinghams.

why not have him sitting on our bench? our captain says we need new faces and marriott will be just as good as any new signing we can afford (for £0)..

It may not be liked, but we seem a little in need of a keeper recently and the the Gil's keeper had a great game, not his first I believe also

Alan Judge, Blackburn player on loan to Brentford looked a better bet in midfield than anyone we have on our books.

Hewitt played in midfield last night, admittedly I only watched last 30mins or so, Marriot came on with around 12mins left and had two efforts one of those he may well feel he should have scored.! Hewitt is getting valuable game time, played 2 x 90 mins in their last 2 games, although on the face of it only 1 at RB. As for Jack he has played 12 mins since he has been there, for me he may just as well be sitting on our bench and getting 15-20mins here and there with us rather than 12 mins out of a possible 360 with somebody else...!

Why is Marriott sitting on Gills bench when the idea of a loan is to get games, he might as well be sitting on our bench for all the good this loan is doing.

Wow playing Hewitt on the right of midfield, guess Taylor must be an adrenalin junkie. Maybe Big Mick better have a quiet word in his ear about taking risks like that!

...... absolutely no point in Jack being at Gillingham - no way can MM justify it the way it's panning out for him there - 12 + minutes game time - and Hewitt being played out of position ??????? ......... whatever happened to common sense and logical thinking ?
