Town Chairman David Sheepshanks is to be on a panel meeting on Tuesday to choose the new vice-chairman of the Football Association.

The other members of the board are Chelsea's Ken Bates, Peter Ridsdale of Leeds, Arsenal's David Dein, Sheffield Wednesday's David Richards and Colchester's Peter Heard. Sheepshanks said: "I am honoured to have been asked to take a place on the new FA Board. Any talk of vice-chairmanship [for him] at the moment is a long way from my mind. My main concern is to do whatever I can to help Ipswich Town to gain promotion. The board at Portman Road is keen to provide as much as we possibly can in terms of funding our promotion push."

Still nothing on the transfer front although we are told that we are to expect a natural goalscorer. Other names of players Town have been linked with recently that haven't been mentioned in previous Newsnets include Jason Roberts and Jamie Cureton of Bristol Rovers and Luc Nilis the 32-year old Belgian international. He is currently at PSV who say they have recently turned down bids from both Town and Scottish Champions Rangers. Their outspoken chairman, Harry van Raay said last week: "Both of those clubs have made approaches for Nilis and others tried to sign another of our players but we want to keep them until the end of the season at least to try and win the championship. We are at the top of the Dutch league and want to stay there so we are not prepared to let any of our players go at this stage of the campaign."

Nilis has scored 24 goals already this season.

Former Town man Tony Vaughan may be about to commit and act of the most outrageous and disgusting nature. The Manchester City midfielder may well be going on trial at Norwich who are after someone to sure up their porous defence. Vaughan is available as he is out of favour at Manchester City. He recently had a loan spell at Cardiff where he impressed and put himself in the shop window. Vaughan left Town for £1.35 million in the summer of 1997. Many feel that the delay whilst a tribunal settled his fee was the reason for Town's hesitation over purchasing Kevin Phillips.
