Doyle Loan Bid Rebuffed
Wednesday, 29th Jan 2014 11:39

Town boss Mick McCarthy is reported to have failed in a bid to sign his former Wolves striker Kevin Doyle on loan.

According to the Wolverhampton Express & Star the Blues manager made an enquiry regarding the 30-year-old’s availability on loan but was rebuffed by Wolves boss Kenny Jackett, who is keen to keep the Irish international at Molineux as he looks to take his club back into the Championship.

Earlier in the week, Doyle — who came on as a half-time sub in Wolves’ 3-0 win at Oldham last night, his first appearance for more than three weeks - was reported to be close to joining Middlesbrough on loan, while the Blues and Reading were also said to be showing interest.

McCarthy took Doyle, who has been capped 56 times by the Republic of Ireland, scoring 12 goals, to Wolves from Reading for a reported £6.5 million in June 2009.

The former St Patrick’s and Cork City striker is under contract to Wolves until 2015 and is understood to be on wages of around £40,000 a week with the Blues likely to have been proposing to pay only a fraction of that figure. Doyle has scored three goals in 29 games this season.

Speaking on Monday, McCarthy said he wasn't ruling out making further additions before the transfer window closes on Friday with loans or swap deals in his thoughts.

The Town boss's scope for swaps is limited given his relatively small squad, although striker Paul Taylor has featured only fleetingly - and may have come into McCarthy's thoughts when looking at a move for Doyle - and keeper Scott Loach remains out of favour.

Midfielder Anthony Wordsworth may also be made available for loan but not until Luke Hyam is fit or someone else has come in.

Skipper Carlos Edwards was reported to be interesting Wolves earlier in the transfer window, but the League One side subsequently signed another winger, Michael Jacobs, on a permanent basis from Derby after a loan spell in the first half of the season.

No thanks. A left winger who could play 2 games in a week without feeling stiff or tired would be good though.

Why, O Why are we not concentrating on recruiting for positions the team needs such as MIDFIELDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our current strikers don't have a problem scoring goals however, IF our current midfielders would create and score more then Mick wouldn't need to look for reinforcements!!!

Midfielders PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
strong creative midfielders if u can get them Mick ;)

Happee Dayz.

What! Our forwards (apart from one) DO have an issue scoring... maybe able to in training.... agree we urgently need midfielders that can put the ball in the onion bag, and not expect hero status

....... let's forget Wolves for a while should we ? - not at all sure that Managers continually going back for past players ever works out - anyway there are other Clubs and Players out there - I assume.

We have a decent squad and can challenge some of the richer teams in the league but we need to play the right players for each match. Many times we have failed to make substitutions when we have gone ahead in a match and waited until the other team equalise before making a change. Substitutions should make a difference which they do for other teams but they rarely do for us and tend to make our performance worse.

We need someone like Hunt to be playing alongside McGoldrick going forward and attacking the opposition instead of passing back all the time. I too worry if McGoldrick gets an injury as he is the most likely to score goals off us.

We don't need Doyle! If we need another wolves player it's got to be Bakary Sako. He is an absolutely insane LM! A position we need.

Whilst I agree Sako is good, realistically he is unlikely to want to come to ipswich

with regards to sako I think there is more chance of seeing our friends up the road qualifying for the champions league than sako coming here. he's on big money and even money bags forest weren't able to buy him. think they were quoted at least 4 million

Its a NO from me thanks. Too inconsistent, 3 in 29 is awful for a striker, more like defensive midfielder stats!

Will people please realise that Jack Marriott is not ready for Championship games just yet! He's just a lad learning his trade. What happens if MM puts JM in for the next 5 games, we lose & JM has a couple of 'mare' games, I'll tell you what; he'll be slagged off with MM & then JM's confidence will be shot away.
Have patience my friends, the future is brighter, the future is MM & TC.
