Doherty Nominated for Award
Wednesday, 19th Feb 2014 11:46

Young midfielder Jack Doherty has been nominated for the FAI Schools International Player of the Year gong at the 24th FAI International Football Awards.

Doherty, 19, joined Town from Waterford United following a trial last summer, having previously won caps with the Republic of Ireland schools side.

The winger’s time with the Blues has been disrupted by injury and homesickness but he impressed as a sub during Monday’s 2-0 U21s defeat to Charlton.

The other nominees in Doherty's category are Alan Browne (Cork City) and Alex Byrne (Salthill Devon) with the winner announced at a televised ceremony on Sunday 2nd March.

Will be great for JAcks confidence, lets hope this will spur him on to further improvement and maybe a senior appearance towards the end of the season

To anyone who saw him the other night, exactly how far off would you say he is off being good enough for the first team? We talking weeks, months or seasons? I imagine he's much quicker than say Hunt, but how do his skills compare?

We haven't once seen him anywhere near a matchday squad, only player we really paid a fee for in the summer, has he had trouble settling in/adapting or is he just not good enough??
