Williams Looks Set to Return to Palace
Thursday, 27th Mar 2014 10:54

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis appears increasingly likely to want midfielder Jonny Williams back at Selhurst Park when his one-month loan spell with the Blues is up after Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest.

According to various reports Pulis is set to end the 20-year-old’s time at Portman Road, although quizzed on his plans for the Welsh international the Eagles manager wouldn’t comment either way.

"I went to watch the game at Ipswich and Jonny Williams scored a great goal and played well. But I will be speaking to Ipswich about Williams before speaking to the media," he said.

Outfield players on emergency loans can’t be recalled during the first month of a spell with Williams currently due to remain wit the Blues until after this weekend.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that he’d like to keep Williams until the end of the season, while Williams has said he’d like to stay at Portman Road if he’s not going to play for Palace in their battle against Premier League relegation.

Football League clubs have until 5pm today to register new emergency loans, although existing deals, such as Williams’s, can still be extended to up to 93 days after that deadline.

Williams has made three starts and two sub appearances for the Blues, scoring his first Town goal in the 2-1 victory over Derby on Tuesday.

If it's true then "Simply Bugger"

If as it seems the decision is not yet made, we'll have to wait and see! I hope TWTD is not turning into the Daily Mail and making 1 + 1= 647!!!!!!

@Langdon_Blue

Only over 21's have to be registered, under 21's can play without being registered.

No one else has mentioned that any other team could come in for him like Wigan did for tunners qpr is nice and close could prob give a hefty lump of cash as well just a thought he might go else where

A loan player is a loan player. We don't expect players we send out on loan to suddenly join the club they've joined on a permanent basis either! He's never going to come here on a permanent basis as we can't afford him and anyway he's under contract to another club. Even if they imploded, they'd be able to get more for him than we can afford.

But it's been good to watch and emphasises the value of a small number of loan players to augment our own.

Still hoping we can get an extension

I just can't work out from this article, what makes it appear likely that he's going back to Palace?

Unless TWTD knows something that they're not quite letting on.

Ooops, I forgot. How dare anyone suggest that Taylor is overrated on TWTD

I don't think any cash in the world will keep him at Ipswich if Palace wants him back. If Pulis thinks he will helt Palace stay in the Premiership, he will bring him back, no matter how much money we offer.
Besides, I don't think Williams will want to stay i Pulis comes in and says he want to play him in the Premiership. Only yesterday Williams said “My long-term future is there [Palace] and my dream is to play in the Premier League" here on TWTD.
And as has been pointed out, being under 21, he can play for them even if he is not registrered in their 25-man squad.
Still, we don't know what will happen and nothing in the Pulis-quote suggests he will bring Williams back to Palace after this weekend.

To be perfectly honest I think someone's flying a kite here.

Definitely wouldn't take this article at face value. Now it might turn out to be what happens, but I think it is speculation at this time.

Langdon Blue - same question has been asked before. U21 are eligible over and above the 25 squad. See

He can and will be playing for Palace if they think he can help them fight off relegation. Simple as that

Has anyone noticed how many points Williams has been worth to us in the last 2 games??? An extra 2 points against Derby and possibly another 2 points against Brighton. Makes 4 in total so I'm wondering in Town will fall off the pace?? :(

He only said he played well and scored a good goal. Don't see how this makes things any more likely that he'll go back than it was on Tuesday night. Massive blow if he goes.

Fingers crossed...he has added that spark we oh so desperately need going forwards, saying that Wordsworth has done ok in the last 2 games.

A mate of mine who is a mate of this bloke who knows the guy who washes boots at Selhurst Park, reckons that he might of heard from this other guy who was saying that no one actually knows if Williams will be recalled. Hope that clears all this up!

Having lived many years up the road from Selhurst all my Palace mates have been wondering how they sent him out on loan to begin with, comments like 'don't damage him' etc. They call him Jonniesta too he's a popular player with their fans (wonder why?) Pulis will have to take that on board also. Afraid he's going after Saturday but - we have some decent players of our own and good results grow confidence - not the end of our season without him. Lets hope he stays but its not looking too rosey. When Didsy got injured most thought well thats us stuffed so life will go on without him,but his prescense has been a breath of fresh air to the team. If anyone can pull this off for us its big Mick so blooming glad hes our gaffa.

Wickets added 18:20 - Mar 27
Yes i hope we keep him, no other teams can come in for him after 5 today. Good as he has been we are not totally relying on him for our push are we? If so whats been going on, a 20 year old boy from Palace!

blueboy1981 added 18:34 - Mar 27
.......... he is / was the only player adventurous enough to have a crack at goal from distance - and what a cracker he scored against Derby - in being so.
1

blueboy1981 added 18:45 - Mar 27
Wickets ........... just wait and see how we miss him if he goes back - he has made a tremendous difference to the team BECAUSE with him in the team an 'attacking presence' has automatically been there.

Without either Williams, and / or Taylor in the team, I'm afraid it's back to the humdrum 'protect the point' we start with scenario. The attacking flair then entirely rests with Wordsworth alone, from within the engine room.

Just speculation !

Steelmonkey added 19:03 - Mar 27
That's our hope of the play offs well and truly out the window, only Wordsworth left to show any attacking intention from our midfield.
Well thank you for showing our management and owner what is missing from line up.
If you do return to Palace I sincerely hope you play a part in consolidating their Premiership status, that is if you are allowed to play.
