Murphy and Green in Ireland Squad
Saturday, 10th May 2014 12:59

Town striker Daryl Murphy and loan midfielder Paul Green have been named in a 32-man provisional Republic of Ireland squad for four friendlies during May and June.

Ireland face Turkey in Dublin on May 25th, Italy at Craven Cottage on May 31st, Costa Rica in Philadelphia on June 6th and Portugal in New Jersey on June 10th. The final squad will be named prior to the squad meeting up on May 22nd.

Murphy will be hoping to add to his 10 caps — and score his first international goal — having made his first appearance in nearly six years when he came on as a sub in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Serbia in March.

Loanee Green, who Town manager Mick McCarthy hasn’t ruled out offering a contract later in the summer with his Leeds terms up, has previously been capped 21 times, scoring one goal.

Republic of Ireland: Forde (Millwall), Randolph (Birmingham), Elliot (Newcastle), Keogh (Derby), Wilson (Stoke), Coleman (Everton), O’Shea (Sunderland), Pearce (Reading), Kelly (Reading), Delaney (Crystal Palace), O’Brien (West Ham), Duffy (Everton), McCarthy (Everton), Hendrick (Derby), Clark (Aston Villa), Ward (Brighton), Whelan (Stoke), Green (Leeds), McGeady (Everton), Pilkington (Norwich), McClean (Wigan), Quinn (Hull), Meyler (Hull), Hoolahan (Norwich), Keane (LA Galaxy), Hull (Long), Murphy (Ipswich), Walters (Stoke), Doyle (QPR), Stokes (Celtic), Cox (Nottingham Forest), Sammon (Derby).

Notice Damien Delaney has had a full season in Prem and now international call up.Still his departure opened door for Tommy to play in this position on a regular basis, and he is now one of our best players.
Daryl Murphy has certainly made great strides during past season and is rewarded with another call up together with Greeny as Mick calls him.
Admit wasn't very impressed with him initially but has improved of late, which goes to show that players need to play regularly in Championship for us to see there true worth.
Think of current players Taylor,Hewitt,Veseli and Marriott have not had sufficient game time, and in Taylors case doesn't look like he is going to get it now,but footy is a funny old game!!!

And wasn't Delaney bought out of his contract as well?? Agree with seasider that we haven't actually missed him, but that paying of players to leave was really a low point for this club. Murphy had his best season for us yet, and what I like most about him is that he was desperate to join us despite all the problems; the fact that he played under 3 different managers for us whilst on loan shows for me he wanted to sign for us come what may, and he hasn't let us down. As for Greenie, I'm in two minds. Seems to have a good attitude and had a good end to the season. But like others on here I'm cautious about players playing for a contract late in their careers. Tabb and Bullard were different players after signing permanently compared with when on loan. Also, is he too similar to Hyam and Skuse anyway?

On a different note I read in one of the Sundays that West Ham are to bid £1.5 million for Cresswell. Let's hope they get told to b****r off and if they are serious come back with a realistic offer. In any case I think he could do better at another club, the irons wouldn't by my first choice.

Since that photo was taken, Murphy has pretty much obliterated his left arm with tattoos.
