West Ham Cresswell Bid Claim
Sunday, 11th May 2014 15:01

West Ham are mentioned in connection with Town left-back Aaron Cresswell by a couple of this morning’s tabloids.

The Sun on Sunday claims that the Hammers are set to offer the Blues £1.5 million for the 24-year-old, while the Sunday People reports manager Sam Allardyce’s “long-term admirer" of the Liverpudlian. TWTD reported that a West Ham scout was keeping tabs on Cresswell back in August.

Town boss Mick McCarthy said earlier this month that he wouldn’t stand in Cresswell’s way if the right offer from a Premier League club came in this summer.

However, a bid of £1.5 million is likely to fall well short of the Blues’ valuation, with Cresswell’s former club Tranmere entitled to 20 per cent of the profit Town make on the tribunal-set compensation of £420,000 they paid for him following his move to Portman Road in the summer of 2011.

Southampton are understood to view Cresswell, who is contracted until the summer of 2017, as a potential replacement for Luke Shaw it he is sold during the close season, while Newcastle and West Brom were also regular visitors to Portman Road during the final weeks of the season.

Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Cardiff, Hull City and Everton have also all been linked at one time or another, while Aston Villa made an enquiry in the summer of 2012.

I still hope we can hold on to him - but if we get the right offer (£5M+ together with sell-on clause, extra payments for international appearances etc) then it would be silly to refuse. My money is on Southampton - assuming Shaw goes to Man Utd or Chelsea for somewhere in excess of £25M

Ok is this why they buttered us up with a friendly?? However as the article states we shall have to give 20% of the transfer to Tranmere. £1.5 million is a joke and £300,000 of that will go to Tranmere. Cresswell would need to be sold for at least £5 million before we get a decent return for him and Marcus Evans make sure you add these further clauses. 25% sell on fee. Further £1 million for getting an international cap and also a further £1 million for 30 games for the new club. We need to make something from his career that I believe can be bright and potentially an international player. Sorry but £1,5 million is a joke and the only replacement you would get with that budget would be an old has been. Well you could get Ashley Cole on a free.

Luke Shaw opening bid £27m so Saints will need to find a lot more than £2.7m to replace him.

The Saints are looking at some young french player for about £6m so unlikely Cresswell will sign for them.

........ instead of ranting on about Cresswell going for ridiculous transfer fees - Shall we just wait for someone to 'officially' put in a bid for him ?????? .......... and show an interest by doing just that.

All the 'transfer talk' to date has all been hype - nothing more - most of it generated by MM's salesmanship !!

If West Ham really valued his services then they should offer something that is not an insult to both the club and Cressy's talent. Clubs with that attitude are not worth it. Stay with us Cressy - you will always have a place here at ITFC!
