Richardson Expected to Join Millers
Friday, 27th Jun 2014 10:30

Former Town loanee Frazer Richardson is reportedly on the verge of joining hometown club Rotherham United. The 31-year-old spent the second half of 2013/14 on loan from Middlesbrough and made three starts and four sub appearances.

The right-back was released by Boro at the end of the campaign, while Blues boss Mick McCarthy said he would consider whether to offer the former Leeds, Stoke and Southampton man terms over the summer.

A deal appears not to have been forthcoming and Richardson now seems set to join ex-Town keeper Scott Loach with the newly-promoted Millers.

Best of luck Richardson but seems like we have a better right back on the way in. Possibly Ayling, heard a few rumours he is at training great if true

Was solid if unspectacular, did well enough when he played bit the fact he provided cover for a centre back playing out of position at right back didnt really bode well for him. Gutted we didnt go in for peltier when he left leeds, but guess he has always been northern based.

Thought he was OK and a decent pro, however he couldn't shift an out of position Chambers at right back and I would rather see Elliott Hewitt given a run in the first team, if the opportunity arose rather than someone who is nearing the end of his career.

Hewitt all day play 3-5-2 with Hewitt bombing on down one side and Cressy down the other with the 3 centre backs. We then need some pace a guile in midfield with Mcgoldrick playing bit deeper than main striker

@Ipswich24 - that formation and those tactics are purely not Mick's ethics, we can wish though.

I wonder if Hewitt is considered the replacement for Cresswell. He couldn't get into the team because having two attacking wing backs in a 4-4-2 doesn't work. However with Mings coming in on the left it opens up the option of playing the more attacking player on the right. I still think our squad is best set for 5-3-2 (or 3-2-3-2) with two attacking full backs and the three central defenders already established. The team needs to start training from pre-season in the formation or it won't work. It also allows for one or two defensive midfielders, a box to box player and another solid midfielder (someone with a bit more vision) - this is an area we'd need to strengthen. It would also mean we wouldn't need to rely on wingers.

However while we have McCarthy we'll have 4-4-2 so expect another season of a solid defensive six, two wingers and a few long balls to Murphy. I like MM, he rescued the club from the brink, he's improved the squad and each season we're better. I just get frustrated by his trust in one formation and playing two defensive central midfielders. Personally I think we could put together a decent squad but they're too predictable.

One good thing is that it seems the majority of the squad will be here next season - the level of team spirit with an established squad mustn't be underrated. No more wholesale summer changes and a relying on loan players as first choice players. We've got that now - it's progress. This summer we're looking at 3-4 key players coming in, one or two going out and a few changes with fringe players - we're not looking at wholesale changes any more.

........ would have been a good permanent signing for us - another strange decision by the Club.

Good professional, would have done us proud.
