Parr to Meet Town on Monday - Updated
Friday, 4th Jul 2014 14:15

Town are targeting former Crystal Palace left-back Jonathan Parr as Aaron Cresswell’s replacement and he will meet with the Blues on Monday, according to his father who is also his advisor.

Roger Parr told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten that there is a “big chance” that the 25-year-old will join the Blues following his release by the Eagles: "We travel there to have a meeting with the club on Monday."

Parr senior continued: “At Ipswich he will be first choice. Jonathan had a meeting with the manager and had a good conversation with him, and Jonathan knows the captain. It is important to have some relationships in place.”

He added: “We know there is a very good club, which has a nice stadium and good crowd. There are also important. Everything looks very positive.”

Former Lyn and Aalesund man Parr, who had initially hoped to stay in the Premier League, has also been interesting Bolton and clubs elsewhere in Europe but Town are his preferred choice. Terms have been agreed but the player is yet to confirm his decision.

Bolton's interest appears to be at an end, the Trotters having signed another former Crystal Palace left-back, Dean Moxey, yesterday.

Oslo-born Parr, who is 6ft tall, has won Norwegian caps at U17, U19, U21 and senior levels.

He made 82 starts and 19 sub appearances for Palace, scoring two goals. Town fans may remember him best for having been stretchered off with an ankle injury during the Blues' 3-0 victory over the Eagles at Portman Road in April 2013 following a solid but fair Richard Stearman challenge.

The Blues squad will be travelling to Ireland on Sunday ahead of their week-long training camp at the Carton House hotel in Co Kildare.

This would be a great signing, good athlete, strong and likes to get forward.

Agree with @Jas0999 that Mings is probably more suited to CB, just due to his size and aerial ability. His touch and crossing isn't that of a player with a natural disposition to LB, so I'd prefer to see him continue his development as primarily a centre back, and as an option as back up LB if needed.

I am always concerned when Ipswich are linked to a player who is been released - they are not good enough for their former team so why us?

I would pick Mings as first team player and put Parr in rotation

Good News! Finally we will get our first real Norwegian signing.( I haven't forgotten Brekke-Skard). Think he will be first-choice, will fit in well in Mick's way of playing. Excited!

Mings is a CB really,so possibly Mick see's him as cover there, but he still has a lot to learn as yet.Lets just wait and see, some of us are jumping the gun too soon, season has not started yet.!!

Parr Senior sounds a bit of a big head to me.Surely no one at the club is a guaranteed first choice, hope Mingsy is not frozen out, and gets a fair crack of the whip.

Why is everyone jumping the gun again, his agent has said he will be first choice not mick, let's just see what happens?

I thinkit is a little presumptious to say he will be no 1 !!! Mings is more than capable of keeping the left back slot for himself !!!

Can we sign the player he is about to nick the ball from. Well i'm allowed to dream!!

got a mate from work and he is a season ticket holder and he cant believe they got rid of parr. Said he'd do as good a job as cressy if we sign him and as mings shows potential but lacks experience I think Parr would be a very useful addition

The thing I'd like to know is MM has said he's wiping the slate clean before the new season starts proper, and if a player plays well and is fit enough in the pre-season matches they'll be in the starting 11 against Fulham. If that's the case will he really start Mings above Parr if TM has a good pre-season? Or Marriott above McGoldrick or Murphy, I somehow think not.

Very good signing as has always looked impressive against us and certainly likes to get forward. As much as I like Mings it's a massive risk to play somebody who has played less than 10 professional games and for me he does seem more like a centre back in the making

'he knows the captain' we don't have a new captain yet?

I'd be very surprised if any new player to a club would be told you're first choice, All decent squads are based on all 11 places are up for grabs.

Mings will have to show that he's better than Parr. Always good to have some competition.

It would also be another position to tick off for next season.

So is Parr senior known as Pa Parr?

Sounds to me saying 'first choice' may refer to another contender rather his place in the first XI.

if this is true I would really hope we can send Mings out on loan - he needs regular football. If not with us, then let's allow another club to give him that experience so we get back a stronger player

If we get Parr then this is a good addition and MM is beginning to assemble some decent players . Have afew CP fans and they all rated him and sorry to see him go
Like the way Mick does his business - Parrs Dad spouting off , I do not like - Not Micks style
