Town Confirm Parr Signing
Monday, 7th Jul 2014 16:24

Town have confirmed the signing of former Crystal Palace left-back Jonathan Parr on a two-year deal. The 25-year-old was a free agent having been released by the Eagles at the end of last season.

Oslo-born Parr, who is 6ft tall, has won Norwegian caps at U17, U19 and U21 levels and has played for the senior side nine times.

Prior to joining Palace in July 2011, he played for Lyn and then Aalesund, having previously been with youth sides Holmlia, KFUM Oslo and Hauger. He made 82 starts and 19 sub appearances for the South Londoners, scoring two goals.

Speaking last week, Parr's father and advisor Roger revealed that there had also been interest from clubs in Europe, as well as from Bolton, who are managed by his former Palace boss Dougie Freedman.

Town fans may remember the new signing best for having been stretchered off with an ankle injury - which saw him miss the first five months of last season - during the Blues' 3-0 victory over the Eagles at Portman Road in April 2013 following a solid but fair Richard Stearman challenge.

Parr told Ipswich Player that he's hoping to put that behind him: “I did my ankle at Portman Road, so not the best memory for me! Hopefully, I can create some good memories in my time here.

“It’s been a long summer, trying to sort out where I’m going to play my football. I spoke to a number of clubs but I had a good feeling about Ipswich.

“I watched Ipswich play last season and they looked a good team. The manager told me what we wants from his team and how he’s looking to be pushing for a place in the top six.

“That’s where I want to be. Everyone wants to play at the highest level and I’ve joined Ipswich to help the club get in the Premier League.

“Having been here today and speaking to a lot of people, it looks a club that is all working together and that’s made me feel even better about the decision I have made.

“I spoke to Jonny Williams, who was here on loan last season, of course, and he couldn’t speak highly enough of the club. Maybe I can get him to join me. I’ll give it a go. It could be fun!”

Parr will join up with the Town squad tomorrow, the rest of the players having flown out for their training camp at Carton House in Co Kildare earlier today.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that we still need a right full back?

Parr is just as good as Cresswell defensively but like everyone keeps saying he won't bring the same attacking quality but Micks already sorted that with 3 LM in Stewart, Henshall and Hunt. Fail to see why everyone seems to think we will miss the attacking threat, when in reality surely having your left back defending and not getting caught out of position by having to get up field has to be and more sure fire way of winning football matches. Stewart and Henshall bring so much pace which we haven't had since Darren Bent and that season went relatively well

With Parr at LB and Cam Stewart infront of him we wont be missing Cresswell . This will be the strongest the left side has been for years. COYBs

Excellent signing and great business for the club. Suspect Mick had a lot to do with it.

............ I have to ask : How can ANYone of sane mind give me a minus for my previous post ???????????

Nothing contentious about it, not anti ITFC in any way whatsoever, and factual - BUT the same response from the same posters, time after time, after time, after time. Speaks volumes for the said people I guess.

Blueboy1981. Definitely need that goalkeeper who commands his penalty area. Reckon you are going to be impressed with our new left back, very good acquisition IMO.

He is a really, really good player. A lot is going right at our club. MM is building something. Be patient and be a fan.

Good work from MM and all those that helped to get this transfer through. Very good signing.
Could do with a recognised right-back now. Would love to see Lars Vilvik at Portman Road. Would cost around 100000 and plays right back for Norway. Good friend of Parrs and would settle in well here.

Agree with the 25 comment Clint Eastwood: maybe he is a mature and seasoned 25.
Do not understand any negative comments on this player. Seen him twice myself and Parr was a stand-out player. I welcome players like that to the club. Just because hes free means nothing (Cole,Ferdinand,Lampard).
Might be worth looking into a utility defender too: someone who could play in any position in the back four. Hugues Wembangamo from Aalesund in Norway is worth looking at. On the fringes of the national team, young and hungry for success. Wants to come to UK and would link up well with Parr and Vilvik

Richard Stearman's tackle on him last season is one of my abiding football memories. A thing of wondrous beauty...

A couple of seasons ago, I mean! They all seem to blur into one. Anyway, great bit business, but priority number one is still creativity in midfield. Unless McCarthy wants our creativity to come from the wings, of course...

The deal for Bialkowski may be held up as apparently MM has an eye on Henderson returning:

We need a contracted goalkeeper not a loan one who can be returned at a moments notice. FFS come on Ipswich 1st team goal keeper has been needed for last couple of seasons and is important if we really truly want to get into the play off's next season. Come on Mick get on the phone and sort out a keeper and get him tied to a contract forget the loans system

Why on earth wouldn't we take Neil Alexander - released by Palace and was awesome for us.

He's seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attacked ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to get Ipswich promoted!
