Milne: Cresswell Cash Will Go to Mick
Tuesday, 8th Jul 2014 19:01

Joint-MD Ian Milne has confirmed that the cash from the sale of left-back Aaron Cresswell will go to manager Mick McCarthy towards strengthening his squad with more signings on the way. Last week, Cresswell was sold to West Ham for an initial fee of £3.75 million, rising to £7 million after Premier League appearance milestones have been hit.

Asked whether that cash would go to McCarthy at this afternoon's press conference to announce the new Greene King sponsorship, Milne said: “Absolutely. That will be reinvested in the club and we wish Aaron great success.

“I think it’s time for him to step up to the Premier League. I certainly see him as a future England left-back, I hope he does too.

“We wish him well, but with the players coming in and our existing squad, we’ve the nucleus of a very good squad which Mick continues to build on. Also, Mick is signed up for another three years, so I think we’re fairly solid.”

He added: “It’s been an exciting time and hopefully there’ll be more [signings] to come as well. We are bringing more players in.”

One of those players looks set to be Notts County keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, although that deal is still to be concluded.

No you're not SouperJim but it's as close to the answer we want as we'll get.
This is good news but hope Mick will stick to his careful approach and only pay fees for outstanding prospects. Lots of good young talent out there who'd see us as a step up including presumably some from Holland and Scandinavia? The thought of alleged senior pros joining on fees brings back too many bad memories (Marcus Stewart aside).

OH ! for a goalkeeper in the mould of NEUER Germanys goalkeeper, he is certainly not afraid to come off his line, in fact he is there extra defender as well !!!!!

That money (which is good news) HAS to go on a decent goal keeper and a creative central/attacking midfielder - without question.

I agree with Tractamatt. Knock on the door for Williams and see what the say.

SouperJim I completely agree, "That will be reinvested in the club" isn't the same as a transfer kitty for Mick. I would be very surprised if more than £1 million is spent on fees. Having said that MM has done very well on free transfers. Lets not forget Wickam's fee vanished into the debt hole.

"That money will be reinvested in the club".....sorry, but that's MD talk, it absolutely does not sound like "That money will made available for MM to strengthen the squad". I'm sure some of it will go to MM, but not all of it by a country mile.....

"That money will be reinvested in the club"

Could include items like repainting the turnstiles again!

....... no you are not Souperjim - 'reinvested in the Club' could mean consummation of such at a multitude of points, is the way I interpret it.

He said: 'more players could / will be coming in' - no mention of paying for them by utilising this income.

All very well saying bid for Williams...but who's to say he'd want to come back? A loan is one thing when a player knows he will be returning to the top flight in a couple of months/end of the season, but there's no guarantee we will be in the Premiership next season. He's too good for the Championship.
