McCarthy Confirms Collison Training With Town
Monday, 18th Aug 2014 09:22

Town manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that former West Ham midfielder Jack Collison is training with the Blues, as reported over the weekend. The 25-year-old Wales international was released by the Hammers at the end of last season and recently had a spell on trial at QPR.

“He’s training with us,” McCarthy said. “He’s certainly got real quality, we know that about him as a player.

“He’s wanted to get himself fit and I think he lives half an hour away, so I said come and train with us.

"Who knows? Something might come of it, something might not. There’s no agenda with it at all, he’s training with us.

“He adds a bit of quality to training sessions. You take people on trial sometimes and straight away you know that’s not going to go any further because actually he’s upsetting the training. But he’s actually added a bit of quality to it. However, you’ve got to see them in games on a full pitch.”

Don't pass this opportunity up Mick, could be the missing piece in the midfield

It depends whether he wants to accept the vast difference in his take home pay,
as no doubt he was getting each week at West Ham what we are like to pay him in just one month.

Get him signed up mick and use him as our play maker, by all means play both hyam and skuse together, but go through collison, let him link play between defence and attack. Collison would be a great signing

We are not that desperate yet guys. By all means lets take a look at him and see what he offers (we all know what we need in midfield) but he has to be the right acquisition to the team and most importantly hes not yet fit.

There you go mick you have said it he has quality! And what is the thing that our midfield desperately lacks? C'mon mick you love a free transfer and now you have the opportunity to make a very good signing, versatile midfielder, technically very good and a very good engine! With Stewart and Parr coming back our starting XI looks strong, id love to see him play alongside Hyam, he would be wasted out wide. This is a good side and has good balance...

Gerken
Chambers, Berra, Smith, Parr
Anderson, Collison, Hyam, Stewart
Murphy, McGoldrick

Collison is outstanding player but left West Ham due to dodgy knee. He is unlikely to last a season. MM is most likely looking at that knee before deciding what to do next. I hope we take him on as he is quality player. West Ham were gutted to lose him.

If his knee is OK, and we can afford him, then he would be worth a try.
