Hyam: Fans Deserve Something to Celebrate
Friday, 22nd Aug 2014 06:00

Luke Hyam is desperate to play his part in giving Town fans something to celebrate on East Anglian derby day.

Midfielder Hyam spoke for each and every one of his first team colleagues when he said: “We just want to take this chance on Saturday to make it up to the supporters for what they’ve had to suffer.”

Norwich’s visit will be their first for more than three years, since the April 2011 clash that saw them triumph 5-1 en route to winning automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Add a 4-1 victory for the Canaries at Carrow Road earlier that season and Town supporters are desperate for their team to turn the tables on the men from Norfolk, who trail the Blues 40-36 — with 17 draws — from the 93 league and cup clashes between the arch-rivals dating back to 1946.

Hyam added: “I know I’ve seen quite a few of the derby games at Portman Road but I can’t really remember too many of them. I do recall the last one at our place when they beat us 5-1. I was sitting in the stand that day and I remember how everyone was gutted.

“The fans were really down about it. You never want to lose any game by that margin but when it’s your closest rivals it makes it very hard to take. That’s why we want to give them something to cheer about this weekend.

“Obviously, we haven’t had the best of times against them in recent years but hopefully that will all change on Saturday. I’m really looking forward to it and I have been ever since they got relegated and the fixture list came out.

“That was the game I was looking out for and I was surprised to see it was going to be early on at our place. I’ve got loads of family and friends who want to be there and I just can’t wait to get out there. I have asked Chambo for quite a lot of tickets and to be fair to him he has given me quite a few.

“I’ve had a few texts, even from mates who don’t normally go to the games but want to see this one. The closer the game has been getting the more people have been coming up to me to talk about the Norwich game and ask for tickets.”

Is Chambers in charge if the ticket office now? We're taking financial fair play very seriously!

Hamish, the club captain gets the players allocation of free tickets and he is the one who shares them out as reqd.Good luck Luke, for my money i think you are an excellent young player who will get better and better.you wont hear me moaning from the stands(unless you make a real cock up!)i am sure you dont need me to tell you to ignore the boo boys, most of them havent got a clue.
