Mings Flattered By Palace Interest
Wednesday, 3rd Sep 2014 15:50

Left-back Tyrone Mings has admitted that he was flattered by Premier League Crystal Palace’s deadline day interest in him, but says he remains focused on helping Town join them in the top flight.

The Blues rejected an Eagles bid understood to have been £2.5 million, with the half-season loan of Jonny Williams thrown in as Neil Warnock's side looked to land the 21-year-old former Chippenham Town full-back.

“When I found out that Crystal Palace were interested, I spoke to the manager,” Mings told the club site.

“He told me straight that he didn’t want me to be sold, that I wouldn’t be going anywhere. He said that he wanted me settled here and part of his squad going forward and that was obviously nice to hear.

“All the Crystal Palace interest was flattering,” he admitted. “I’d be lying if I said otherwise — with a Premier League club willing to pay money for me at this stage of my career but it’s in the past now.

“I’ve obviously only been in the game a short while and things have gone well for me at Ipswich.

“I’m certainly very happy and I’m looking forward to the future here. I want to help the club reach the Premier League. That is the goal for me and everyone else here.”

Meanwhile, we understand that former Blue Mark Venus was close to being named Colchester United’s new manager before another ex-Town centre-half Tony Humes was appointed on Monday following Joe Dunne’s departure.

Venus, whose last job was assisting Tony Mowbray at Middlesbrough, is still based on the Suffolk/Essex border.

.....Mings has the makings of an excellent player - and a very level headed attitude too.

He will go far in the game - anyone who suggests we should move out this kind of player from our Club is plainly BONKERS. Yes, BONKERS.
Far too many of his like have been allowed to leave in the past - for other Clubs to benefit from.

B'Jesus! - with the season long loan of Williams thrown in! - personally should have taken Palace up on that, still really surprised Palace would off load Jonny for the season, I should definitely think he's good enough for their bench. Can't help thinking Warnock is to what we have with Mick (to a degree).

What an utter crock of 5 hit. The scratch of the neck, the smirk on the face and the rock on the feet all clear signs he's been forced/told to carry out this shameful PR stunt to pull the wool over the eyes of the simple.. Joke.

Drop the act, we all saw your antics.. Parr to start Next game thanks...

I think if Mcgoldrick had been sold we would have done the mings deal to get Williams in. As it stands maybe Mick is going to play Mcgoldrick a bit deeper behind Murphy as he often drops off a bit to start the attack.

No 32 - so you are an expert in body language and physco analysis are you? The lad is young and has accepted impeccably in the past . We all do and say thing when we are younger which are perhaps out of lne and we learn from it. So will he - it's called growing up. Try it sometime and get off his and the clubs back

Sorry my fault half season (split over 2 lines) :) - 2 solid games over 2 Sky Sport games doesn't equate to £2.5M - yet!

Personally, from the games which I saw Mings play (on the telly as the commute to PR is a bit far for me) he was excellent. He is only 21 and under MM could really develop into a great player for our team. As for comments mad eon social media, which 21 year old do you know that wouldn't get over excited about the prospect for playing for a premier league team (with the wages that go with it)? Not surprising he sounded off a little more than he should have.
The second, and much more optimistic thing that I have taken away from this is that Palace are willing to let JW out on loan. I say we get the best of both worlds. Keep Mings and get JW in on loan anyway, maybe a season long one with the option to buy in Jan. After all ME did say MM would have the cash to reinvest. So finally Town aren't short of a few quid.
