U18s Draw With Blades
Saturday, 13th Sep 2014 17:22 by James Ager

A 90th-minute equaliser prevented Town's U18s taking all three points as they drew 3-3 with Sheffield United having been 2-0 behind at the break in a great advert for youth football at Playford Road. Myles Kenlock, Monty Patterson (pictured) and Sam Ford netted the Blues’ goals.

The Blades started well and took the lead after just 11 minutes. Dan Cockerline charged down Blues keeper Jacob Marsden's clearance before taking the ball into the area and finishing with ease.

Town were unlucky not to level with Andre Dozzell's long-range drive tipped over by keeper Aaron Ramsdale and Amon Walton Owen's cut-back was pushed just wide by the on-rushing Cemal Ramadan.

However, the Yorkshire side made Town pay and doubled their lead on 25 when Kler Heh cut in from the right and hit a weak effort which rolled under Marsden and into the net.

Ramadan's close-range effort was tipped round the post by Ramsdale a few minutes before the first half was brought to a close.

Town's comeback began nine minutes after the restart when James Blanchfield's left-wing corner was met by Kenlock who diverted the ball over the line, despite the best efforts of a Blades defender.

Marsden produced a diving save to push Cockerline's curling effort away just after the hour mark, before Town grabbed an equaliser on 69. Ramadan produced a good cross from the right and sub Monty Patterson slid in at the back post to roll the ball past a stranded Ramsdale.

The young Blues continued to dominate and took the lead right minutes later when the ball fell kindly to Sam Ford who finished well from 12 yards.

Ford then saw a left-footed drive tipped just over by Ramsdale, but Dom Calvert Lewin broke in the final minute and slotted the ball past Marsden to ensure that both sides took a deserved point from the game.

Chris Smith and Dozzell ran the game from midfield for Town in the second period, while Ford also had a big impact when he came off the bench.

U18s: Marsden, Jones, Walton Owen (Patterson 58), Fowler, Emmanuel, Kenlock, Ellis (Ford 46), Dozzell, Ramadan (Ingram 74), C Smith, Blanchfield. Unused: McDermid, Daly.

Well done lads. It was a good fight back so sorry you didn't take all three points but you are the future of Ipswich Town.
