Hewitt Could Go Out On Loan
Friday, 3rd Oct 2014 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy is weighing-up whether to send right-back Elliott Hewitt out on loan.

The 20-year-old started the season in the team, in a less familiar right midfield role, but his only involvement since the Reading match on August 16th was as a sub in last week’s 2-0 home victory over Rotherham.

“There’s a possibility of that,” McCarthy said. “We might use the two-week international break so it wouldn’t affect us for a couple of weeks [if he went], we might only miss him for a few games.

“I’m having a look at that. I spoke to his agent, he rang me and suggested that. I’m cool with that, if we can do something but we’ll see.”

The Wales U21 international, who we understand was interesting Colchester in the summer, spent much of last season on loan with League One Gillingham. The former Macclesfield man’s contract is up at the end of the season.

Not for to long I hope that would leave us short of full back cover, we do not want to revert to Chambers at full back.

I agree that we need him here as fullback cover especially as Mings one booking away from suspension.

Why loan out a promising youngster who can play on the right as defender, or midfielder. He looks good going forward.
Would rather we kept him and didnt take Ambrose, Collison or have given Hunt a contract. With the midfield options we have these three will just draw a wage for little or no involvement. Get shot of em.

Needs to be kept at peak match fitness, so could understand a short term move.

like Veseli; Would do very well at a League 1 club.

TR11BLU - none of those you named will be competing with EH for a place in the team. He looks like a good long-tern prospect. Getting him more game time with the big boys in L1 will do him, and us, more good than leaving him out of match day 18. We are building a SQUAD, not just a team!

Better him playing on loan than sitting on the bench, we know MM isnt going to readily unsettle his back 4 with they way the team is currently performing. With international break coming it would be a good time for Hewitt to get some games.
He is a definite first team player in future.

I like Hewitt but i just dont think Mick rates or trusts him.
Sadly i think he'll go on a free at the end of the season.

I rate Hewitt better than Parr. If it's a short term as in one month loan during the international break (assuming he's not playing u-21s?) then fine, but i'd get him back here, get him in at right back and Parr at left back when Mings serves his suspension (if that happens) then if he has a good game then there is real competition for the full back slots on both sides. we NEED to sign him on a longer contract though, we cannot let him go on a free

We need to sign that Jono Woolatt, absolute rock.

Its not good for him to be on the bench or not even in the squad. He needs to play every week to improve. If parr is injured chambers would switch and snitch come back into the middle. I wouldn't know what MM really thinks of him, but it's clear he needs to improve defensively to get in the side and that's only going to happen playing week in week out.

Sounds like a request from EH side to go out on loan rather than MM wanting to send him out. Could be the best for both parties if EH gets game time and comes back pushing for a place.

Obviously has the talent and tenacity..going out on loan and getting some matches will do him good and keep him sharp,so long as we have a 24 hr recall.

I think it would be idiotic to let him go for nothing at the end of the season..he's another like Tommy Smith who I think is slightly unlucky at the moment because we've got such a good back 4.

Still only 20 and can play anywhere on the right..it's a no-brainer to give him a new deal imho.

A loan with a 24 hour recall would be good for him. I really hope both Hewitt and Marriott get offered new deals as they're still very young and have potential.

Not ready for a first team regular place in my opinion, but surely needed if suspensions or injuries hit? Let's imagine Berra and Mings get booked at the weekend and are both banned ... We have Smith, but who else?

Started the season off well against Fulham in right midfield but I also get the feeling once he starts under performing he's soon likely to be dropped, so have to agree not sure if Mick entirely trusts him. A short loan out to a league 1 team wouldn't do him any harm.

I'd keep him in the team for his enthusiasm, versatility & fantastic long throws - v powerful weapon into the box with our CBs !
