Greatest Living Yorkshireman? If I Win It, It'll Be On My Desk! Saturday, 4th Oct 2014 06:00 Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’ll proudly display the title 'greatest living Yorkshireman' on his desk should he win the poll currently being run by the Daily Telegraph. The Blues manager is currently well clear of the other contenders in the poll the paper started after prime minister David Cameron bestowed the title on former foreign secretary William Hague earlier in the week. The Telegraph's other nominees are Geoffrey Boycott, Michael Palin, Jarvis Cocker, David Hockney, Alan Bennett and Patrick Stewart. “Somebody told me about it,” McCarthy laughed. “A friend of mine sent me a message yesterday telling me she’d just voted for me as the greatest living Yorkshireman. I said ‘That’s very kind of you, but I’m against some stiff opposition in that one!’. “We’ll see. I tell you what, if I win it, it’ll be on my desk, I can tell you that. I’ll be having it on my door!” He added: “Some people might not see being the greatest living Yorkshireman as a compliment! But I’ll take it if I win it anyway!”
