Bellamy's Son on Trial With Town
Friday, 24th Oct 2014 09:16

Former Norwich striker Craig Bellamy’s 17-year-old son Ellis is currently on trial with the Town academy.

Ellis, a winger or striker, has been with Cardiff City’s youth set-up and has been capped at various levels by Wales up to U17.

Bellamy senior, a close friend of academy coach Kieron Dyer from their time at Newcastle and West Ham together, was spotted in Ipswich on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the academy have also taken 17-year-old Needham Market winger or forward Ace Howell on trial.

Howell, who was previously with the Town youth set-up as a schoolboy, has already broken into the first team with the Ryman League Division One North side, where Blues academy coach Steve Foley also works.

“He is a real talent in terms of his pace and his ability on the ball and I think he has a real chance,” Needham manager Mark Morsley told the Bury Free Press. “If Ipswich see that, we will be talking about a move.”

He added: “They are always watching the U18s. Steve has worked with him and said he was good but there has been a bit of interest from one or two other clubs, Norwich and Colchester, as well.”

Elsewhere, former Town assistant manager Willie Donachie has taken on the same role at Hartlepool United under new manager Paul Murray.

@Cheltenham... I offer Frank Lampard, Jamie Redknapp and Kasper Schmeichel as evidence that they can get there or thereabouts.

Bellamy certainly wasn't one of the hate figures - more someone we found frustrating. I might have different feeling if it was Robert Fleck's kid (or grandson by now!) Regarding Ace Howell - nice name, although it has the potential of being 'butchered' a bit.

IRT Marcus

If he is really quick, he will be Pace Howell
If he is really bad at tackling, he will will be Ace Foul
If it's raining he'll need an Ace Towell.
If he's got a dodgy stomach, he'll need an Ace B..... I'll stop there.

I wonder why Nodge didn't want him? I'm sure Craig would have been banging on their door first...

I shan't be complaining if the future Ipswich Town team lines up with Monty Patterson, Ace Howell and Ronaldo Jones!

Hopefully his dad hasn't been teaching him the offside trap!

Jokes aside, as others have said, if he's anywhere near as good as his old man get him in!

My blue heart just sighed a little bit at this post.

Shame. Why do young players make it difficult for themselves? Surely he would know that he would be more accepted at another club? He will have to be amazing to win over the fans, hes just added more pressure to himself.

Let's hope he has his dad's talent and his mum's personality.

Sad that one or two wouldn't welcome him to the club.
Strange as Ben Wyatt was welcomed with open arms by the fans and has played well so far for the U21's.
I for one would be really pleased that we signed a player with such good pedigree and potential.
hope Ace is as ace as his name suggests as well.
