Leicester Striker Lawrence Linked
Monday, 17th Nov 2014 15:39

Town are amongst a number of Championship clubs claimed to be interested in signing Leicester striker Tom Lawrence on loan in January.

The Foxes signed the 20-year-old Wales U21 international from Manchester United for a reported £1 million on the final day of the summer transfer window - after they had failed in their attempt to sign Town’s David McGoldrick - but he is yet to break into Nigel Pearson’s side.

According to Sky Sports, Leicester are willing to allow Lawrence to go out on loan in January in order to play games with the Blues, Blackburn and Cardiff amongst those interested.

Wrexham-born Lawrence, who is contracted to the Foxes until June 2018, spent spells out on loan at Carlisle and Yeovil while a Manchester United player.

Well I doubt Leicester will allow him to come here after the McGoldrick saga.

Unless of course it's part of a deal deal in January to get him.

Can't see the point in this to be honest. He'd be more likely to get games at other sides and wouldn't want to see anyone dropped for a loan player. Never seen him play but our forwards are doing well and if were going to sign I'd prefer if it wasn't a loan. Mick knows what he's doing though and I'll trust his judgement!

I'd welcome this. Not much to lose in taking him is there? If anything happened to Murphy or McGoldrick then we'll be very short in back up options. I don't particularly fancy Conor Sammon taking their place. Does anyone know if McGoldrick is out of contract in the summer or did I just imagine it? Could be part of a deal to sign him as we can't afford to let him go for free.

There's no point in brining him in as he would just sit on the bench at best!

Sounds a bit odd.Why would we need an unproven striker when we're on a promotion push.Dont like this one bit.Better strikers about I'm sure.

Why would Leicester part company with a player they purchased in August? And that Town are interested in a player that is ultimately an alternative to the very player we have kept hold of from LEICESTER....!!??!!

Still think we are a striker light if we are serious promotion contenders. Yes, Murphy and McGoldrick are an excellent pairing and currently as good as any in the Championship.

BUT if one or both are injured, suspended or just having a quiet game, what are the other options? Sammon is a hard worker but a striker who doesn't score many goals. Bajner doesn't look up to it yet, and arguably not likely to be good enough at this level. Mick rarely uses him. That's it! We need a better option in my opinion.

I believe we have an option of another year for McGoldrick in the summer? Perhaps Phil could confirm if correct.

Do think we need to get another backup striker in January either on loan or permanently but not sure this guy is the answer. Wasn't this guy awful when he played for Yeovil last season?

Ipswich_Loyal - we do have another year option. And importantly it is our option, not his! However we are expecting McG to have a new contract before January to extend this further

Was on loan at Yeovil last season and was there most dangerous player, very pacey and if he came here he would be the ideal 3rd striker to add a pit of pace and a fox in the box, can also play on left wing, would definitely take him

Hope we do the right thing and get Didz option tied up although if he makes his international debut as stated by Mr O'neil then his wages are sure to go up and well deserved too!!! on the subject of Master Lawrence he would be a great back up and with his pace a better option than we have should Murph or Didz are sidelined.

Think a top championship striker or winger would be the final piece of the puzzle, if we are in the playoffs come January we need to go for it, recall Southampton bringing in billy sharp, QPR bought in ravel Morrison and Cardiff bought in frazer Campbell just to give them that extra X factor to push them over the line to get promoted, think it would work wonders to do the same

For any new transfer we have two considerations, would he fit into our system and add to it and secondly can we accommodate him into the squad and will he fit in.

I think at present he would. Because in January we are set to lose Williams our current A* loan and Mcgoldrick is a potential target for transfer, especially if he has a good showing at international level.

Combined with the fact that we cannot let our direct rivals have such a talent so easily, I think showing an interest is good management and planning for our part. I'm glad we are thinking ahead on the biggest issue for us in January (losing Mcgoldrick or william or both)

Couldn't we try and get David Nugent instead?

If he comes, where will that leave Henshall and Stewart, they can't even make the bench at the moment.

@ Punchnohopers - Henshall and Stewart aren't strikers so it makes no odds to them. I can't see MM taking anyone on who he HAS to give games to. If McG, Hunty and Murph are fit they will play and rightly so. He can only really get a player in and say you'll play if we have injuries which doesn't seem to fit with Pearson's aim of getting him games.

Of course Hunty isn't a striker either (As we've seen recently!!) but he plays that role of pressurising the oposition and creating chances brilliantly up there.
