Wenger Confirms Mings Interest
Friday, 5th Dec 2014 10:15

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Blues left-back Tyrone Mings is amongst the young players he is keeping an eye on. The Gunners have repeatedly been linked with a January move for the 21-year-old, however, Wenger says his club isn’t close to completing any deals.

Arsenal have been regularly represented at Town’s games this season with chief scout Steve Rowley and colleague Pat Holland both having trips to Portman Road.

"We are following a few young players but we are not close to signing anybody,” Wenger said.

Questioned specifically about his interest in Mings, he added: "He is one of the young players we follow.”

In addition to Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Sunderland, Everton, Manchester United and Burnley are amongst those keeping tabs on Mings, who is contracted until the summer of 2017, while Crystal Palace had an offer of more than £3 million rebuffed in the summer.

The Blues - who have no immediate plans to make January sales - are understood to value Mings at more than £10 million.

We need to be to two come jam to have any chance of keeping him.

If Arsenal bid anywhere near £10m he'll go.

Not because we need to sell, but we don't tend to stand in the way of a young kid joining a Champions League club and beimg made for life.

He clearly loves it here, but if anyone offered you such a leap, we'd all go.

I don't want to see him go but i'd rather him go to a club like Liverpool or Arsenal where you know he'll get looked after and nurtured than see him go to a money machine of a club like Man City or Chelsea where he'll just get chewed up and spat out.

I don't think he needs to go just yet and we don't need to sell just yet..let's all see where we are in May?

I guess we can always at least make sure we get him back on loan for the rest of the season?

It will be an awful move for all parties if i'm honest. He needs at least another season with us playing first team football.

I agree that it wouldn't be fair to stand in his way and I genuinely think arsenal would be his best option as they do tend to give younger players a chance, that said I really don't want him to leans as he is crucial for our promotion push. If we did sell in January it would have to be for 10 million with a loan back until the end of the season. Maybe if we got promoted this year they would loan him back to us next season too so that he would get regular premiership games

£8/10m looks cheap compared to the other young full back they signed in the summer for £16m, who at the time had played less games for Southampton than Mings for us

It would be sad if he goes and VERY unprofessional of Wenger as McCarthy always says he doesn't talk about other managers players. Keep your mouth shut until you make a bid

If we get £10m and an opportunity to sign players in January this could be the difference between play off's and automatic promotion. I'd rather sell him at a large fee than lose our striker!

Can't see how it would work out for him. He needs continued run of games, particularly given how little League football he has played. Richard Wright anyone?

The Premier League outfits seem to see Mings as a centre back - which is a position he is unlikely to play here. Arsenal would, however be a good fit for him because he is frankly better than almost all of their current defenders and should get into their first team no problems.

If Ipswich want to make a serious push for the premier league this year we cant afford to sell our best players. If we do it tells me Ipswich have no ambition

10'mill plus sell ons, plus a loan back to May plus add on for his England U 21 and full debuts and I don't think we could say no but only if Ty wants to go. Big ask to pull another left footed rabbit out of the hat after Creasy and mings tho!

Cressy. Not Creasy. No swipe at the boys ironing intended.

if selling mings and getting a hefty sum for him and getting the right players in with that money to all but get automatic promotion id be all for it but nothings ever that simple. im sure money will talk in this saga like in most be a shame to lose such a promising young player hes destined for the highest level for sure.

I do not think we'll sell him in January. I honestly don't think we will.
We may HAVE to get promoted, mind.

If a top prem club come in for him January at near £10m, he will go. I think he is really developing here, and moving during a coming of age season is not ideal. A sale and immediate loan back is the obvious solution for all parties.

His price will only go up if we keep him, there is no reason to sell him at all. 10mil for Mings and champ football or keep Mings and go up.

Rock and a hard place this one, if we sell don't invest and don't go up... don't be surprised next year playing in front of two men and a dog.

Bluetone added 13:09 - Dec 5
Certain place in the team with a strong possibility of being in the prem next year or a probable place bench warming at best.

Remember Richard Wright he made the jump too soon.

£10 million for Mings a player signed for £10,000 would be a good deal to any championship club .It would certainly not be the difference between us going up or not ,Parr is a very capable left back .
With the money re invested into the squad we would certainly have a good chance of promotion push exactly the same as when Dyer was sold lose one player sign 3-4 to strengthen the whole team

Wright and Wickham made the jump too soon
Dyer and Tarrico funded the premiership dream!

Hard one to call. If we keep him he needs to remain focussed, then if we dont go up we could get the same money if not more next year. If we do sell though, wouldnt replace with a left back. Its Parr's natural position and a decent right back could be just what we need. Big IF though, as i dont think we have anything to lose in rejecting all Jan bids for him.

Just tell anyone interested that we aren't willing to do a deal mid season and come back in the summer. Players signed in January tend to flop and it would be better for ty and for the squad in general. Who knows what he would be like as a loan player? Would his form drop? No deal until the summer to any interested parties.

Hope like most he doesn't go,Arsne only said he is one of several young players they are looking at.
Was greatly heartened by Mr Evans refusal to part in last transfer window, and look where we are now.
Also a lot of above talk about bringing other players in,George Burley did this successfully for a time but really came unstuck when we went up,with all the foreign imports.A couple of players who were there at the time have since said that the team spirit and togetherness disappeared;something the club has in spades at the moment and long may it continue.
